Re: Early Trade Rumours for 2022

I've watched a bit of Lobb (live at the games) over the last two years. He reads the play well and can clunk a mark, hes also not a bad shot for goal. But what you don't see on tv is his body language when his lead is ignored or he gets out-bodied. Can his attitude change? Of course. Is he a good fit for us? As a back up ruck, maybe? Is the price right? with Freo willing to pay some of his salary, then yes.
In saying all that, I do think he would be an asset for us, BUT one of JUH, Bruce or Naughton would have to play backline if we were to play all four ... and Scache must be moved on as Lobb would now be playing that role.

Surprised by the negativity towards Lobb when he is exactly what we need.

If $500k per season is accurate that is a good deal. The cost in term of draft picks we will have to wait and see.

As to the reason he wants to leave Freo I have read that his partner is from Melbourne and they wish to relocate here.

On paper he ticks a lot of the boxes that we need.

He would basically replace Martin on the list.

If 37 gets it done surely that's good business.
As good as he was against Melbourne (and he was excellent), those days are less common than his completely invisible games, like last week against Carlton. The difference between his best and worst is stark, and at 28yo or whatever age he is, that gap is not going to be bridged any time soon.

If you are going to perform 2 key specialist roles in a team, you need to be able to justify your position in one if them. Is Lobb a bankable commodity as a sole ruckman or sole key forward if injuries necessitated this? Darcy Cameron and Luke Jackson most certainly are. As much as I hope Lobb could aspire to Cameron and Jackson levels of bankable consistency, I fear he is more Peter Ladhams level and not bankable (Ladhams similarly had quite a few fans on here 12 months ago).

If we get him, I will be barracking for his success as hard as anyone. I just can't see him bridging the consistency gap after so many years in the system already.

I agree but this synopsis could be said about 95% of players in the league.

That's what separates the elite / champions from everybody else - consistency.

At the price, I think we'd be absolutely silly not to do the deal. Darcy isn't going to be ready for a while and by the time he is, some of our mids will be done. Bruce is coming off an ACL and has maybe 1? year left - there's every chance his best is well past him now.

Lobb actually allows Marra and Darcy that extra 2 years development (which we won't likely get from Bruce), whilst providing much needed support for English (who, mind you, has his own concerns with multiple concussions).

Too often we get outmarked in our own forward half (Andrews killed us last night). With Naughton and Lobb, that just doesn't happen and if we get something from Bruce/Marra that makes us even more damaging.

If we get Lobb, I still want us to trade Dunkley for a key defender if possible and then potentially look to add an inside mid through the draft (or acquire one from another club on the cheap).

We have all been crying out for a second ruck as a back up, and at 500k, let's do it. AS long as we get a backman as well

The key issue for me re Lobb is how can I go from absolutely detesting him and all he came from to accepting him as one of ours.

What if it were Finlayson or that massive guy with the tiny head who sent girls pics of his other tiny head?

I dunno, there's a line to cross here.

Haha. I love this, it's going to be hard if he does come here.

If all else fails I can make George McFly jokes which will make me happy. If he makes a mistake. "Hello? Anybody home? Think McFly, think"

What about Tom Highmore from St Kilda?

I've really liked him when I've seen him play, which for whatever reason has been very infrequently under Ratten. Gotta think he wouldn't cost too much.
