Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
The league has 24 hours after the completion of each round to nominate each week.
How many people would you recommend be involved? There is no prize for being nominated other than an invite to a luncheon at the end of the year and a round of media interviews.
Clearly a flawed system and seemingly subject to lobbying the individual responsible, but what's the alternative?
As to your second question. More than one. Any element of bias or perceived bias needs to be removed.
There is certainly NO prospect of a prize for not being nominated.Comment

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
They were drafted in 2008... they shouldn't be eligible given that they have had 3 pre-seasons in the AFL system.
The whole competition is a joke.... made even more so by todays article.Comment

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
Rising star I would have thought at least a few good games in your first season.
I had respect for Kevin over the years but now I am not sure where he gets the "god" title on young guns after seeing whats gone on this year.
Must admit I am sick of hearing in every carnival the same bland comments from him every year.Bring back the biffComment

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
They could have the club presidents or proxy's give votes on the opposition young players at the games they attend and then tally them up at the end of the year like a junior brownlow.Don't piss off old people
The older we get the less "LIFE IN PRISON" is a deterrent...Comment

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
Could they potentially do it based on the coaches votes? The coaches each give a 5,4,3,2,1 each week don't they? Could they give the rising star nomination to the highest polling player for the week that meets the eligibility criteria? That would mean it would go to the most influential rising star of the week. Again it would mean some players miss out, but it would be more reflective of their impact on the match.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star
Another flaw is inequal matches. ie. In a close game there might be roughly half the votes from each coach (so 15/30 all up) allocated to each team. ie. there might be an equal spread of votes given to the two teams because thewy both played well and both had good players. However in a blowout 20-25 of the 30 votes might go to just one team, which could inflate a young players good performance in a blowout over a young players good performance in a close match, when the latter may be more worthy of the nomination.
And finally in my argument against myself there is also the issue that there will be players who will have the "votes" to earn the nomination for multiple weeks, so do you nominate them 2, 3, or 4 times or once nominated are theu struck from the pool.I should leave it alone but you're not rightComment
