Libba should be in there, as you mentioned. Others like Dion Prestia (GC) have had some good games, as well as Ben Jacobs from Port, but unfortunately their teams haven't won too many games so they are overlooked.
GC has quite a few nominees -- do you think they have too few? I guess they have the most young players so are odds on to nab a couple, but is 4 or so overs?

Libba has played 15 games averaging 19 disposals a game including 28 disposals and 10 tackles against Brisbane early in the year, Blease has played 4 averaging 17 disposals highest being v GC where he was nominated on the weekend....

        That just dont make sense!

I think the award should go to Darling. To me the only real contender is Swallow...both played key roles from 1st game to last.

Heppell? Fine - but much easier to play on a flank than at CHF or as an inside mid.

I think Liber and Jones both deserve nominations, but don't really care that they haven't got them...if Luke Shuey is eligible in his 3rd year (basically because he couldn't get a game in the first two) then so should Chris Yarren and Jackson Trengrove who have had much better seasons...

As an aside, the 2008 draft was crap with a capital 'C'.

Re: 2011 - NAB Rising Star

I think Jones definitely deserves a nomination he wouldn't go close to getting one considering Kevin Sheahan or however picks it just looks in the newspaper to see the stats for most games.

The biggest issue I have with the award is that it doesn't follow it's name/purpose. It's the 'Rising Star'. I think it should be awarded to the most promising player. Instead I believe it is more like the 'Best player under 21 and 10 games' award.

Jones is a young KP forward who doesn't rack up stats but he shows wonderful signs in the areas that matter. Liam doesn't get 20 easy touches or kick 3-4 goals against Port but is 6th in the league for total contested marks this season (only 3 off 3rd and 5 off 2nd).

This is seriously something wrong with the 'Rising Star' award when a kid who has the 6th highest amount of contested marks in the league not only doesn't get a Rising Star nom but probably didn't even get close to it.

The Brownlow is the award for mids and the Rising Star is the award for flankers/outside runners.

According to Swans fans, Alex Johnson has been holding down CHB for most of the season and has rarely been beaten. He would also be nowhere near a nomination due to not being an outside running mid or a flanker.

                Really?

Watts, Naitanui, Hill, Hartlett, Hurley, Yarran, Rich, Vickery, Ziebell, Davis, Sidebottom Shuey, Suban, Beams, Hannebery, Robinson, Anthony, Sloane, and Savage. (Not to mention future superstars Cordy, Roughead and Jones )

That's 19 blokes who should all eventually be (some perhaps aren't far off) solid or better players. I'd say it's about on par with most drafts thus far, with potentially a pretty big list of elite, top end players.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Yep, it's the worst thing about the Rising Star. I mentioned Jones being 6th overall for contested marks. He also has missed two games, with only 2 players ahead of him averaging more contested marks per game. Along with Sam Reid, he is surrounded by mature bodies on the list. It's crazy, crazy stuff to not have him in the top 24 rising stars of 2011.

Tom Liberatore is even more crazy. A first year player playing as an inside midfielder and STILL getting the stats they normally love.

He was a player I thought we should draft. Very versatile,

That is great news, but once again I'm left scratching my head as to the selection process. Liam got 9 possessions and a couple of goals including a 'joe the goose' in the goal square. He's been terrific this season but he was largely a non-factor on Saturday. Dion Prestia was far better in Round 24 and has some previous form behind him. Libba was better this week as well - didn't get a heap of it but was very clean and had a game-high 6 clearances.
