Does leaking it to the press help Marra? How would he and his family be feeling this morning. Probably not great. Actually I was reading the Hawks reply to the Buddy stuff BAD posted yesterday and I love how they came out so strongly in support of him. Not sure it's a comparable situation but I liked it none the less.

For me, dont worry about the announcement, focus on the impact on the playing group. If they dont want him back, then ensure the rest of the playing list is happy. If they do want him then get him back into the team asap. From what I heard most of them didnt want him to play in the final and it might have been a different result if he didnt play. Nothing to do with what he did on the field👍 1Comment

Sorry, first post in quite a while...
My view on Marra - purely from a football perspective and this was before all of the rumours and issues - is that given we committed to Naughton for so long, and also have Darcy (who is better than both of them) - that we should have been looking to trade Jamarra for a huge draft return.
I love Jamarra, and have known about him and how we (WBFC) were working with him from when he was 14. And nobody wants him to succeed as much as I do. But after playing 3 tall forwards for much of last year, the coach demonstrated that when it comes to the crunch (Elimination final), he doesn't actually believe in the 3 tall forwards thing as he never played them on the ground at the same time. If Naughton isn't going to be a defender, then you can't have them all.
Now that there appears to be known issues with how he handles being a professional - we will miss out on a portion of that trade capital.
We don't tend to 'get it right' with the players that have off field issues. Hunter, Stringer, Bailey Smith all being recent examples that just became too hard for us. So my faith is pretty low on getting Marra back on track.👍 3Comment

To save anyone else checking if interested,
Freo: Hogan, Pick 65
Dees: Picks 6 & 23
Dogs used on Marra: Picks 29, 33, 41, 42, 52, 54 (but 61 back) and end of draft selections. So effectively (natural picks) 2 x 2nds, 3 x 3rds.

I think it's all on the player and not the club at the end of the day, people can blame the club but unless they lock the players away or forcibly change their lifestyle outside of their workplace, they've got zero control of the outside influences. Hunter had real issues that I believe would've continued at the Dees (considering he was unfit and retired very young), I just can't see how the club can really do anything unless it comes from Marra himself

I imagine he isn't the first kid to demonstrate high performance potential and think he is bulletproof and beyond the reach of consequences for his behaviour. To me he seems in need of a parent to set firm boundaries and be prepared to enforce them. Whether the club can play that role is open to conjecture. Talent is a wonderful card to be dealt to you, but without application it might as well be discarded and another card drawn. The truth will set you free,
but first it will piss you off. ... Gloria Steinem.👍 2Comment

Still don't understand the strategy to get the media to run with it and then we respond, however it's a good statement and that should be that for a while. Close the thread! (joke).BT COME BACK!

I assume the media came to the club and said we are going with it, we had a chance to get in front of that however the strategy was to get behind it.
If I'm being super cynical we used to media to get the ball rolling so we could appear to be responding to it, rather than initiating it. Actually the more I think about it, that's probably what happened. Mitch Cleary was reportedly at the club, and in his x? (what's a tweet now) he said the club will release a statement soon.....how did he know that I wonder to myself.

The club hasn't confirmed much but have at least answered the many questions about why he has been missing training.
