Ok so I'll out myself a bit without being a wanker
I know Marra.
I've had dinners with him and I love the guy.
He probably would walk past me in the street, but I love him and my first moment with him was an event where I spent the night with his parents (my wife knows Alice marras mum).
His mum took photos of us, I teased him that id watch his moustache grow it was that level.
Over the years I've had the great privilege of spending time with Marra and he's an amazingly lovely person. Always; I mean always gives me a hug when we meet.
So this is painful.
Fk footy this is a young man who's going through something maybe none of us can understand.
So, I don't get the need for this thread. It's just going to be negative and he deserves better.
That's where the gap is. We have no idea what the problem is here. To most of us the idea of playing AFL for a better paid living is amazing (on the surface). Without any insight into why Marra is stepping back it leads to speculation and rumours. We can't understand because from the perspective of most of us there's nothing really to understand as of yet. There's a default narrative with young (especially indigenous) footy players to assume the issue is partying and substance abuse so of course that narrative will pick up steam first. It's hard to counter that without some alternative narrative.
Not to say we 'deserve' to know what's going on but just reiterating we literally can't understand because we haven't been told anything.
On another site I'm on this would be regarded as an attempt of thread shredding by a small minority to derail a discussion that they find difficult to deal with.
Instead of ignoring the discussion they turn anything mentioned into a question about other members integrity and they are okay if it alienates other members.
I guess the derailing has largely been achieved and potentially we have lost one of our finest members here.
That wasn't my first intention, it was to consider the person and maybe not speculate in public on someone's health
I get people want to know the answers, but sometimes it just ok to let it be.
As the thread went south yes I did go a bit harder than normal.
I'll mute the thread as it's clear people want to chat about Jamarra's mental health
Guys please i came to this forum because i love this club and im 110% positive we all feel the same way , when i joined GVGjr and in particular Grantysghost reached out and made me feel right at home , and after a few days i released how knowledgeable bulldogtragic was about the club we love , i really did love reading his posts , on the other hand GG was humerous and knowledgeable , so what im trying to say here is, it would be a tragedy if one or both left this forum , i hope all involved can reach out and bury the hatchet , and both bulldoctragic and GG resolve their issues and continue on this forum for a long time to come .
Well a lot of great discussion but it comes down to Marra and what he wants to do.
If he's discontented, being immature, either he wants to stay or go.
The club will do what it can.
Yes he has outstanding potential and yes he is damaging our culture.
Yes we need to accommodate indigenous players.
What if we fly without him, with Darcy, Naughton and Davidson?

Wow a bit harsh Bornindroopst54 , that he is damaging our culture , as so many have said we don't know the ins and outs of this saga, im sure its not his intentions to damage our culture, but on the other hand your entitled to your opinion .

On the presumption he left for Bali pre finals.
sorry haven't read last few pages.
Will do but surely that is verifiable and if not verified then shouldn't be considered.
If true, certainly damaging to club culture, regardless of whether his team mates or coach are cool with it.
Yes I read page 13 and don't care to read more.
Mental health issues, all speculative and divisive discussions between WOOFERS.
Go gently, we love our club.
Our club and Marra are dealing with it, speculation based on no facts in this thread, including my previous one.
Ignorance is culpable.
To hopefully change direction here a bit - what will people tell their kids about why Marra isn't playing come the start of the season (assuming that's the case)? I'm not sure younger kids quite understand the concept of mental health. Any suggestions as to how to explain it to an 8 year old?
It's a good life lesson in modern football for children to understand that players get moved on, get injured, retire or traded.
I'm still trying to come to grips with Quinlan being traded but I'm making progress
I don't envy the challenge ahead of you but you never know and he might be back by mid season

On Quilan who was one of my heroes I'd go to see, I do remember the crowd at Spurling Park booing him off after a loss.
Maybe they knew something that young I didn't.
The fact that he shared a brownlow with fellow ex Dog Barry Round stlill grates.
We had to trade our champs to stay financial, the club's greatest achievement outside of flags.
I’m just catching up on this thread. I fully understand Marra’s health is very important. Firstly to himself, and family. The club is 2nd and we supporters are 3rd. I haven’t really heard “rumours” etc as I’ve been pretty much non existent on forums etc since the season finished last year, but I can also understand the passion for the club we feel, can bring out a lot of emotions. We want Marra to be fit and healthy. We want Marra to be the best player he can be, and bring success to the club on field and off field.
we can only hope he is surrounding himself with those who love him, care about him, and want the best for him. I’m sure the club is also doing everything they can as well.
As supporters, we sometimes have to take a step back and understand that footy is just a game. Yes, it can be a lucrative job for some, but it is just a game. Life goes on before, during, and after football.
I really wish Marra the best…whether that means football is part of his life or not, that’s not the equation.
I love reading all posts. From the regular posters to the newbies. Everyone has a voice and a perspective, and I can understand that when passions run high, things can be said etc. I should know. I’ve been there.
but GG puts ALOT of effort into this forum, which we are very lucky to have, to come here, and be part of something.
I look fwd to season 2025. I look fwd to reading more posts as the season kicks off, and I look fwd to seeing Marra back in the colours (if he chooses to want to).
I think the contributions to the thread have been overwhelmingly reasonable, with the occasional comment that strays into subjective/rumoured areas.
It is a big topic which is going to have updates and discussion throughout the year. We need somewhere as a forum of Bulldogs supporters to discuss it.
One point that I have felt uncomfortable with is the thread title being 'the Marra debacle'. Debacle feels very strong and emotive, and I wonder if changing it to something objective like 'Jamarra indefinite leave' or simply 'Jamarra Ugle-Hagan 2025' would help.

Thanks, I've tidied up the thread title so good call.

I really hope you have a rethink on this. Your contributions have been excellent and youve always been good at cutting through the nonsense in any debate.
I didn't want to sidetrack this thread but I felt compelled to respond to this.
