Of that lot i can and would only want to see The Bont come into that side , i think Vandermeer needs a couple of weeks to get over his injury concerns , and as silly as it sounds i would rather they bring Jaques stright into the side instead of Duryea , i watched the kid last week play against Werribee and even though he did not star , you could see his game awareness , the kid will be a beauty.

My point is as a forward his defensive pressure and defensive running is quite strong, stronger than most of our small fwds we’re playing at the moment and considering our severe lack of options in that role I think he should be in consideration right now, that’s all

Hynes had a taste which was great, but probably not yet ready and will go back to the VFL after not much impact on the weekend.

Dolan to stay in or as sub again for mine, was solid on the weekend but will likely come out once a few more senior players are back. Hopefully VDM is available, plays the thankless high half forward role well enough that especially with our outs, is pretty important.

Good to hear Harmes injury isn't too serious, has been excellent this year, versatile and need him back.

Personally I would also move JOD back and drop Buku, roll with the smaller fwd line again and have an extra runner or defender on field. Could then have Davidson / English push forward as marking targets when the play slows, however in fast play just isolate Darcy deep with West / McNeil at his feet.

You referenced how many kicks he had, and nothing else.
4 of the 6 least effective players on the ground were Brisbane players, and yet they won. Dolan was not in those 6.

The point I'm trying to make is you can't have 3 first year players in the side that have little to no influence and expect to win. One needs to be dropped.
Dolan was the sub for a reason, probably his lack of impact the previous week.

That's fair enough.

I think McNeil and West (and VDM for that matter) are much more effective as defensive forwards but if we want to play 4 - and last year we were basically undefeated with those 3 + Weightman playing - then Arty should be considered.

I don't want to be a smart arse but tackles and pressure acts are the sign of a player who is second to the ball, not the sign of a player who is a great defender.

He was 100% subbed out because he could not be trusted to provide fatside cover as a winger...you have to work to position and control the exit point and balance that with playing on your man. If 17 pressure acts - which I agree can be a thing but mostly aren't a thing - were important then he wouldn't have been subbed out then dropped. When you couple being poor defensively with being unable to actually get the ball, well, you have a problem.

Please St. Kilda, find any sort of excuse to omit Jack Macrae from Saturday's team. I am not ready to see Jack running around in anything but the red, white and blue.

Dolan elevated to 22, make Hynes the sub. I'm not dropping JJ because of his performance, I wasn't expecting him to play that well off such a long break, but simply because Baker is available and he's a better half back than JJ. Bont for Harmes is obvious.

If they wanted to be real brave, they'd drop Jones and give the Buss a debut. But I doubt they'd ever drop Jones unless he has multiple horror games in a row.

There is a chance Libba gets a rest so if so, I'd bring in Arty Jones and give West more midfield time to make up for Libba's absence.

We are already light-on for redline running high pressure small forwards, and we were even more so this week with VDM out injured and Hynes brought in to fill the breach (but not ready)

VDM is an automatic in for mine if he's passed fit, especially considering St Kilda's biggest weapon being their elite half-backs Sinclair and Wanganeen-Milera.
