Is this whole thread, getting side tracked, and a lot of complaining?
Teams loose players, and they gain them.

Marra is a bad egg, forget personality profiles ect, every single club, would have match a bid at 1, if they have first access, and we threw every resource we have to develop him. We even spent part of pre-season with his mob. It didn't work out, we will get bugger all back, shit happens, move on.

Loosing Dunks stinks, and maybe we could have done more to keep him, or maybe more, would not have been enough, who knows, it's 1 player.

Smith, is a complete narcissist, who, probably always wanted a bigger club, that also lets him be him. There is a lesson here, as someome said above, we are not big enough to keep that type happy, and should avoid drafting them in the future. Getting pick 17 for him, is on the AFL, not the club.

We brought in Trelor, Lobb and Kennedy, who all seem happy, and love the club.

    Perfect does not exist.

Perhaps he plays a part in the Dogs acquiring Budarick. I'm not sure what that might be but if they're interested he might help. Hardwick might back the club to turn Marra back into a footballer.

I couldn't imagine anything more completely psycho than JUH going to Gold Coast. From his, the AFL's and GCS's perspective this should have massive red flags on it, and I'm almost conflicted by our potential part in sending him there.

Unless, and this is the kicker, he's actually much better than he's reported to be mentally and emotionally and his tenure with us has been cooked for a long time with quiet mutual agreement keeping him away from the club.

If he can help us land Budarick it's probably the best we can hope for. There's no reconciliation and return to play with us, he's seen to that.

To the comments surrounding Dunkley and Smith's departures from across the spectrum, I think you're all probably right in some way and trying to pin things down to single issues in each case is silly and simplistic.

We know Dunkley had issues with some team mates and some cultural elements at the club that weren't addressed. Why deny it being a factor? We also know he's incredibly vain and literally wanted to sell fan experiences via one of the most ridiculous web pages ever put together by a footballer or any sportsperson (let alone their weird siblings), whilst at the same time handing over one of his jumpers at a fans day to a NBA superstar. It's not that challenging to consider him wanting to be the centre of attention during trade period, and showing his higher profile team mates he's a big dog as well - especially if he did get to that massive Melbourne club that plays ANZAC Day and Dreamtime at the G. I won't mention his girlfriend Tippah who he wanted to "showcase" at the Brownlow, or the fact he wanted to be close to her family for whatever reason while she lived in Adelaide...well I just have and it's a factor, especially if they'd agreed that's where they want to build a life.

And Brisbane wasn't a bad sell, was it? They were clearly on the up when he joined them, any decent football person and manager could have pointed out how much talent they had and had coming through. Why does it just have to be one thing and not the other? Career choices are complex.

With Smith, I'm going to contradict myself a bit, and say it's pretty simple. If he hadn't have done his knee he'd have been playing his preferred role last year, and that may have given him an incentive to stay. But given his relationship with Cotton On, the fact they'd have been in his ear for a very long time, his thirst for the spotlight, the fact Geelong has been looking for their next high profile player to replace Dangerfield, we were always unlikely to retain him.

Good post Jee. You’ve eloquently stated my jumbled thoughts on Dunkley.

Will be interesting to see how much input AFL have regarding Marra.

Correction: you’ve elephantly stated my jumbo thoughts on hot pocket Dunkley.

Plaudits to him; Hot Pocket Dunks will have played in 5 GF and won 2, possibly 3 of them at end of Saturday (here’s hoping as we all seem to despise the Cats). Bloody good record and yes, he is a thoroughly professional footballer.

Legend. He is so hot pocket it's not funny.

This is Josh Dunkley before he was even Josh Dunkley, it's at the G too and it's exactly what he'd say:

I just think our low-key small club was not big enough for Bailey. He wants exposure and glory, feels he deserves it. He said Geelong lets him be himself, which is quite pointed. We didn’t get how “special” he is

He be in the Legend status on 3 GF for the modern era.
                      Martin Pyke has 4 , 1 x North, 3xBrisbane.

Cant remember who else has this many since I started watching footy, probably Michael Tuck is the other one comes to mind.

We are going to have to start talking up Jamarra.

No. 1 pick, generational talent, good in the air, better on the ground, great defensive mindset, hard working, will run all day, just been stuck at a crap club that couldn't understand him (like Baz.) Will win the Norm Smith, Coleman and Brownlow for you. Two firsts and he is yours.
