Once the AFL took over the management of Ugle-Hagan they were always going to get some acceptable outcome.
Now Marra made it hard on them with repeated challenges during the year that narrowed the range of clubs they could work with and this is what has led to them working with Gold Coast to get the deal done.
We could also have thrown a spanner in the works by simply holding him to his contract and effectively putting him in limbo so there will be something else coming back way.

    From the AFL's perspective:
Marra has been put on notice and he would realise he's on his last chance, the Dogs will get his salary off the books and a player is return and GC will get a lot of assistance in managing this for the AFL.
There might even be a few high fives being thrown around the AFL office once this deal is confirmed.
The AFL is so concerned about the decline in indigenous players in the AFL, they are considering an extra rookie spot for clubs just for Indigenous players

As an aside, Craig Cameron handled the discussion on JUH the other day like an absolute pro. Very respectful of us and hit all the right notes. Class act.

Also the media, who I normally have utter contempt for, have handled the entire saga with respect and actual understatement from the get-go.

I have found this a very interesting read and I think it cuts right through what the AFL has wanted to achieve.
Find a home for Marra and give the Suns some incentives to take on the risk and then do something to protect indigenous players from dropping out of the AFL.
They will be happy enough and as Dogs supporters we wont see a lot wrong with it.
