Any chance we can front end the contract and give port no chance of matching?
I can't believe it might be Butters

I’m not talking like 2m I’m saying can you throw up like 4m up front first year move other contracts around it ? Might be reaching abit haha
Other option is maybe just hope port finish bottom 4 so they get a top 5 compo pick and then we do a few pick swaps with them to make them happy and not match.Comment

Port doing that tells me they were ready to let Butters go if they got nwm, there’s no way they were gonna have both on that money or have the picks to get nwm without moving Butters on.

Probably but my point was since they didn't get NWM it means they can match anything we can offer Butters.👍 2Comment

It’s not the point if Port can match it though it’s will they? because the thing is if he signs a 3mil, 1yr contract with us we can extend it after and smooth it out to where it should be. Ie 3 mil year 1, re-signs in preseason for a further 5 years at a proportionally lower rate for a total 6 years at the original agreed contract.
If Port match they’re then back in the same situation next year with Butters and have spent 3 mil on a player who doesn’t want to be there and looking to leave again. As he won’t be re-signing with them to smooth that out.
It’s a good suggestion and we’re potentially in the position to do something like this with the cap space we have and we should absolutely use it if Port won’t play ball and let him leave on a normal contract.
Knowing us though we’ll play mr nice guy and offer 3 firsts & more out of good will to not screw over another club. **** it time to get the claws out, we’ve been pushed around by other clubs enough. If we don’t start, also, playing dirty we’re going to be taking a nice, peaceful trip to the bottom in this current age of trade & FA.Comment

They aren't matching to keep him or actually pay him the money, they match to force a trade that nets them something better than a single first rounder after their natural first.

They only need to have the capacity to match.👍 1Comment

It’s a big risk though, they have to match knowing he very well might say sweet I’ll stay an extra year for the 3 mil pay day and try again next year.

So they match, we trade out all our good picks and get the media to paint Port as unreasonable and irrational until they fold and accept a pick in the 20’s.
love it.
was trying to quote hujsh but didn’t work for some reason…Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?👍 1Comment
