Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb
I know at the time it appeared that we overpaid somewhat trade wise to acquire Lobb but I'd like to hear from BT and others how two x 2nd round picks stack up now that he has settled into a role as a key defender?
Is there any other recent trades that we could measure it against?Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

It’s hard to measure trade against others. It’s closeish to Jordan Clarke and not a lot less than Dunkley, but less. I think it almost goes into the Tom Boyd type of ‘ends justifies the means’ type trade.
All I know know is we paid top dollar and now he’s delivering and it’s great.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb
So it was pick 30 and a future second rounder that went to Fremantle, which was which pick?
I don't know whether putting an equivalence next to the Dunkley trade makes any sense. Dunkley ****ed us, as did Brisbane.
Lobb at the time was Fremantle's leading goal kicker, and we needed a second ruck Bevo would actually play with the other forwards. Both Jamarra and Darcy have come along very quickly which is great, but any further inconsistencies in form for those two guys or injury to Naughton would have given Lobb a more prominent role which is what he's demonstrated to need to thrive.
Stripping a leading goal kicking big man from a club will always cost you a lot, especially if he can play ruck as well as Rory can. I don't reckon Freo were dancing after the trade, if their supporter responses to him playing against them were anything to go by.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

Lobb: Picks 30 & 30
Dunkley: Picks 23 & 20 (later swaps of no real consequence)
Pretty sure we were both about the only pro-Lobb Trade advocates at the time. I agree with the 2022 season he had it was always goi g to cost us.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb
In defence of Sam Power (like with the GCS trade last year), he was expecting us not to shit the bed versus WCE at home and miss finals. I think Power would’ve been expecting the F2 to be something closer to Pick 40. But we imploded. Of the two future trades to get right, I’d rather gamble a little on Lobb and come up short and bet big on the GCS one and come out smiling. Power is still the best judge of future pick trading of the list managers I reckon.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb
Yep. By its nature trading future picks is a gamble. But it’s not like a top 10 for Schultz or Hopper type miss. I don’t lose any sleep over it. If Rory plays out his career at or near this level then no one will bring up what we traded.Rocket Science: the epitaph for the Beveridge era - whenever it ends - reading 'Here lies a team that could beat anyone on its day, but seldom did when it mattered most'. 15/7/2023Comment

Re: Welcome to the Western Bulldogs Rory Lobb
Lobb's move down back was pivotal to our making the eight. He was our best player last night.http://journals.worldnomads.com/merantau

He was such a great player last night and the only person that springs to mind if I ask myself who won their position.Comment
