He's been delisted 3 times and played a year of local footy during his AFL career, it's a remarkable performance.

The craziest thing is that he has quite a few state league accomplishments. Two B&F's with Geelong, premierships with Geelong and Box Hill and was named BOG in the 2013 VFL grand final. If he'd never been on an AFL in that period then he'd be a guy that everyone would be begging to get a shot at the AFL.

Sam Grimley is approaching hall-of-fame territory after being announced as an Essendon top-up player - 3 games to date and about to enter his 7th consecutive year on a senior list.

With the list they have this year, maybe they should be renamed Ekesendon.

What if he plays 22 games this season?
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

If he plays 22 games this season he'll no longer be an Eker of the highest order.

Wow. Had no idea it's been 7 years in the system.

He is one that slipped under the radar.. That's an awesome effort!

                        Re: Ekers

Really class - rolled gold ekers - are Grimley-like in their anonymity. They exist in the shadows for the most part, destined to surface when some no-name half-back from a cellar-dwelling club pings a hammy and can't front up for a Round 22 clash against another cellar dweller. Then they disappear for another 10 - 12 months before being de-listed.
Fortunately, the one good game they played in the Magoos was witnessed by an AFL Club's recruiting officer whose car ran out of gas opposite the Werribee Football Ground when he was on his way back to the big smoke after visiting his sick mum in Geelong. So our eker gets his foot on the merry-go-round again.

                          Re: Ekers

Man, I can't believe that they picked up Grimley. He's just not a footballer and he has been exposed in multiple VFL grand finals as not being able to handle pressure.

Sam Grimley is such a great Dickensian name though.

It is. I can imagine him living under a snow drift somewhere in London.

Could be a red letter weekend for the eker movement with Daniel Currie playing his first game for GC this weekend and Sam Grimley on the extended bench for the Bombers.
