Re: Draft Day Bolters, Sliders & Complete Passes

From our perspective I think Sam Murray or perhaps Brandon White might be the bolter and the slider could be Darcy Tucker. I think we will get someone from the Gippsland Power but I'm not certain who.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"

Adams could be an excellent option as a somewhat mature pick-up. Seems mobile enough and has good size. I get the impression though that we have tended to stay away from WA players in recent years but I do rate him.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Draft Day Bolters, Sliders & Complete Passes

The only reason we would avoid a WA pick would be for the go home factor, which our list managers would need to assess on an individual basis. Adams is mature age, so hopefully the homesickness type issues are less of a factor than they may be for a teenager?Comment

I'd be surprised if that (homesickness) was the reason as we would assess the individual from every other state the same way and I'm not sure homesickness is more relevant for WA players than anywhere else.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Re: Draft Day Bolters, Sliders & Complete Passes

I don't know but we have been avoiding drafting players from there for a while.
In 2010 we took Schofield and Johannisen (as a rookie) and we haven't drafted a WA boy since. Now WA have had a couple of lean years at the State titles etc but the time before that when we last drafted some WA boys was back in 2006 when we drafted Hill and Stack. So in 9 years that's 4 players from a strong footy state. Going back further I think the time before that was Wayde Skipper back in 2000.

I don't believe it can be a homesickness consideration over that period of time because it doesn't appear to be a problem for other clubs. Now I know we made a play for Jack Martin so elite talent will win out and we might not have had the picks to get players like him or Hogan but my theory is that unless a player has some major talent we have tended to avoid WA players. For this year I could see us going after Ah Chee but perhaps it's vastly harder for someone like Glass-McCasker because he is from WA. We got Hamling via Geelong but it hasn't read that well with drafting players from WA.

Just a theory though, this might be the year it changes.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

AFL article on Ryan Gardner. Don't know much about him but sounds a type that could interest us as a late pick/bolter.

Looks a good build, even if he does look a little like k d lang!!Comment

In my little wish list, I've got Skinner as a good option at 30. Don't know if that quite makes him a bolter. 21 not completely out of the question - that'd qualify him I reckon.Comment

Skinner looks a good prospect, though with the knee (assuming he's out for another 6 months?) he might be taken from 30 onwards?

There should at least be some interesting options available at 21 and 30 in terms of KPDs (McKay, Collins, Skinner, Adams)W00F!Comment

Re: Draft Day Bolters, Sliders & Complete Passes

By that I mean, if he is there at our first pick, it would have to be a huge temptation.

I remember reading that Stringer would have been #1 if not for his injury. Gamble has paid off big time, I feel like rolling the dice again, particularly with the overall depth that has emerged in our list over the past 12 months.Officially on the Bus-wagonComment
