What to do, with pick 82?

Simply broken down are options are:

    - elevate Roarke Smith
    - draft Crameri if he's available and if we wanted to
    - look for a mature aged player
    - draft a kid

    And, why?

I would like to see us draft Crameri. He still has some good footy left in him, like-for-like replacement for Stringer, ready to play, and at the end of his time we can at least say we sucked the marrow out of the bone.

Agree I’d go Crameri. He’s been leading goalkicker at a club four times (I think) and has line breaking speed which we don’t have in spades, plus he’s a hard matchup for opposition teams . He did look a little unfit in pre season this year so that’s my biggest concern whether he can get back to peak fitness.

We haven't released Crameri though, he is out of contract but restricted I imagine so still on our books unless we delist him . Is that how it works ?
What if he gets picked up beforehand if that's the case that we can choose him in the draft.
        I'm confused.

There will be another list lodgement before the ND and there will also be a delisted free agent period. I'm guessing both will be delisted and Roarke will be elevated.

Happy to go with Crameri or someone like Hamish Brayshaw who was a top ager for the Dragons this year.
Failing all that Smith or just a very competitive youngster. We had a couple at Footscray this year that might be in the mix.

Article on afl.com.au saying we are likely to take Roarke Smith with 82 as an elevated rookie.

If true, it makes draft night nice and short. We can switch off after the first round.

Crameri is still on our list, that's true, but we need to use 3 selections in the National Draft and we currently only have 1 list spot open. Therefore we need to delist 2 players currently on our list and Crameri is likely to be one of them (with HC) so by the time the draft comes along, he's likely to need to be re-drafted if we want him to stay.

I'd much prefer Crameri but think he will get picked up as a DFA and we will upgrade Roarke Smith

If the club thinks Smith is more worthy of a spot than Crameri or Honeychurch then I back them in.

I would like Crameri because he is a bloody good footballer who should have a couple of years left in him. But I worry about the fact he hasn't played for two years. Can he still pass the ball out of the last line of defence and then run and run until he finishes the play by marking deep in attack? That sort of of running was what he bought that seperated his game.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Re: What to do, with pick 82?

Crameri main strength was his explosive speed and tank to cover ground. Not playing for two years and a dodgy hip won't hurt that.

The fact we haven't delisted him, Roarke or Honey means we see them as options as our last rookie at the very least IMO.

We need to delist Honeychurch and Crameri. Honeychurch will be signed as a DFA by GWS so he is gone. I think we will draft Crameri in the ND if available and re-rookie Roarke or the other way.

I think the minimum list changes is silly and outdated. How can the AFLPA be ok with an employee getting dumped by an employer who potentially wants them. I get the reason back in the day, forcing clubs to bring in kids via the draft but clubs well and truly see the benefit now on their own.

Player movement via trades and free agency has increased, so clubs can bring in talent without using the draft now moreso than they used to be able to - so if it's such an imperative to bring kids in, then we need the rule more now than in the past

I think the reason was to promote clubs going to the draft and not just sticking with what they knew. I don't get having a minimum anyway.

Surely the club have been pushing Cloke to retire? I understand his 200k would have to go in the cap next year but we have obviously have too many talls on our list with the Schache deal coming so late on. Love to see Crameri on the list next year has been through alot deserves the spot more then Cloke TBH
