Re: What to do, with pick 82?
Well, because I can think of nothing more productive on a Sunday evening than to lose myself in YouTube footy replays...in the words of Paul Roos...here it is. At 3min 49:I remember watching the Roys v Dogs at Junction Oval on The Winners one weekend, which was surprising in itself as we were so rarely featured on TV in the early 80's. Doug Heywood was commentating the match, and after a typical Mark Komp floater that went out on the full he said ......"Mark Komp, kicks it like he normally does, very poorly"
Boy, did we have some ordinary players in 81-82!Crumbs!Comment

I remember Doug Heywood commentating with a young Tim Lane the year the ABC had the full VFL rights (mid/late 80s?). They had a similar light sense of humour and bounced off each other so well. Maybe still the high water mark in footy commentary teams.Comment

Re: What to do, with pick 82?
This site rated him as a second rounder ...Here are some names I would consider at pick 82
Joel Amartey - a 195cm athletic tall who can play in a variety of positions but he will need a lot of time
Hamish Brayshaw - 187cm midfielder
Nathan Krueger - Lively forward, 196cm
Tom De Koning - 200cm forward and ruckman
Tom North - Hard working midfielder
Kyron Hayden - Strongly built midfielder from WA
Charlie Thompson - Determined 184cm defender
Cassidy Parish - Tall midfielder
Hayden McLean - Key position forward, can ruck
2017 AFL Draft Prospects: Tom De Koning
Name: Tom De Koning
Position: Key Forward/Ruckman
Club: Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country
DOB: 16/07/1999
Height: 200 cm
Weight: 93 kg
Draft range: 25-35
Summary: Tall key forward who can kick goals, is great contested marker of the football and has powerful left foot kick. Can also help out in the ruck
Strengths:
Left foot kicking
Goal kicking
Contested marks
Can play in Ruck
Weaknesses
Inconsistent
Overview
De Koning is a player with relatively low risk, with his current forward ability it is clear he is ready for the AFL although he will still need to development. He can kick goals and is very good on his left foot. Clubs look for players who can play in multiple positions and be versatile and like most tall forwards especially of De Koning’s height, he can also play in the ruck.
The decision making of the youngster will be the focus of improvement should an AFL side take him. Predicted to go around pick 25, De Koning could be a handy pickup for a club in that range. It always seems impossible until it's done. Nelson MandelaComment

Re: What to do, with pick 82?
De Koning sounds like a tall Scott Welsh the Bulldogs and Crows player. I always felt confident when he was taking a shot for goal.
Tom's List of Strengths would pretty much describe Scott Welsh. Except for the ruck bit. They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.Comment

Re: What to do, with pick 82?
He's a fine player Doc, I saw a bit of the Knights particularly in the early part of the season and he always caught the eye. Kicking is the only criticism I have of him and I think it's something that can be fixed. I think he might go a bit earlier than our pick but his desperation and willingness to take the game on are great attributes.I would like to re-iterate this.

Given his Next Generation Academy links to Carlton I can see them grabbing him early.Western Bulldogs Football Club "Where it's cool to drool"Comment

Certainly not as exciting as Penrith but Callan England from WA might be worth some consideration with a late pickI would like to re-iterate this.

Clark's son Ashley is now a member of our Coaching panel.Clark Hansen and Smooth Booth were excellent commentators on The Winners, as was Tim Lane. Clelo was awful and Geoff Leek hated commentating any games that didn't involve his beloved Bombers. I really enjoyed Doug Heywood as a commentator - love the way he would use a players full name when commentating (Douglas Barwick, Terence Daniher, Nicholas Winmar). He even called Val Perovic 'The Gypsy' in one game.Comment
