And pay out for doing so.

Only players get to break contracts without penalties because they shouldn't be forced to do anything they don't want to.

Yeah that's something that needs to be worked on. Clubs can trade out players too without much consent

Otherwise I can just start a rumour that Gold Coast are interested in trading Steven May, Jack Martin, Peter Wright and an annual pass to Movie World for Honeychurch, Roarke Smith, Jong and meal for 2 at the Plough Hotel.

            Not Jongy!
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

              So things are moving quickly:

Outs are Dahlhaus, Collins, Biggs, Clay Smith (NMM) - Media reports Roughy (WCE, Saints) & Honeychurch (GCS) - Assume Campbell since he doesn't get a game
Extending: Morris, Jong - Media reporting Dickson, Wallis & Libba staying
Upgrade: Gowers - Presume Lynch upgraded, if not he's delisted as he's done his three years
Extend Rookie: Smith (wording didn't say elevate like Gowers did, assume extension which is permissible)

4 confirmed main list, 1 confirmed rookie list - likely three more main list 7 total, likely one more off the rookie list (Lynch upgraded), 2 in total. -- with two rookie elevations that leaves 5 live picks in the nationa draft and 2 live picks in the rookie draft. Circa picks, subject to much shuffling are:

Pick 7 (assuming GCS take pick 3 as compo) - used or traded for a gun
West/Pick 19 hopefully (Dahl compo - likely pushed to 23 or 24 if there's Lynch & Gaff compo, plus three priority picks)
Khamis/Pick 48 & 49 (Roughy compo) which is virtually equal to pick 31 in draft points.
              Pick 68
              Pick 69
              --------
              Gowers
              Lynch

              RL Pick 6
              RL Pick 24

That's 7 changes off the senior list, which is a good sized pruning. Plus... Then there's the media reportings of Redders maybe retiring on injury, Adams being open to a trade back to WA and one has to think Roberts might see if a trade is available. We could see 8 or maybe 9 changes. If any of the above happen we are looking at a pick or two in the 80's onwards, or if we grab a free agent, using one spot on them and keeping our last two picks in the 60's. That's a fair effort from Sam Power in year one. The other question for Power is if he's prepared to trade 7 or get in the serious race for Gaff with big money now Dahlhaus has left a good chuck of cap for him to be aggressive with. But then losing Dahl and Roughy compo is a factor unless there's a trade.

If Roberts leaves (he's contracted but lukewarm rumours of Collingwood interest) and Adams goes back to WA (feasible) than we really need to back in Young. He seems to be more comfortable intercepting than playing man on man even based on the VFL games I saw this year which is ok as that's the way Adams played anyway.

A bit better athletic profile too. Taller, faster/leaner but not as strong (but that's maybe less important as the 3rd up). Would like to see him back himself to take the marks when he's next in the team though.

Yep, Young stays no matter what, unless Bevo is off him. But there’s no evidence of that so yep let’s back him in and use Adams for an asssult in Gaff.

I posted in another thread, but this is a longer explanation. I think WCE will threaten to match bids on Gaff, like Adelaide did on Dangerfield. Especially if the compo is only pick 16-18.

Sydney look like needing to use their first rounder on Blakey. But our pick 7 might give them a first rounder at 7 and use their second rounders in points for Blakey as a second first rounder. So Sydney win really well, so surely that tempts them. But we want a decent player, one of their many small forwards would be perfect for us.

Then we take to WCE circa pick 12 and Adams as trade, plus Roughead is around the discussion. That’s not that far off The Dangerfield trade if Adams was valued around pick 28. So it seems fair, and we have the cap to accomodate it. So we take pick 12 and Adams, whose body has question marks and turn it into a small forward from Sydney & Gaff. Everyone wins. But with Collins, NMM, Adams and possibly Roberts exploring interest and Dale being 36, Young stays with Cordy, Naughton, Morris & Wood (Roberts if there’s no trade).

I’m a simple man , this is doing my head in, you know all the scenarios we are coming up with will probably be so far off the mark.

I can see us picking up 2 players of the caliber of Lloyd (tigers) and to the draft with our other picks.
Teams like us don’t get the Gaff’s, Shiel’s, Wingards etc, and I can’t see anything changing unfortunately.
I think Gaff will go to North on massive $$
Shiel will head to Hawks to make it a threesome with Mitchell and O’meara
                        Wingard to stay at port.
I will never see #16 the same!!

I agree we don't appeal to big names, but believe we are a lot more appealing than North.
North have had a so called "war chest" for years now and nada.
If I believe what I have heard we have been very close to a big names over the last coupel of seasons and for one thing or another the deal falls apart at the last minute.

Only one I have ever heard of was Hurley, who were the others? We couldn't have been much more appealing at the time, about to play in back to back finals series, with the Bombers a rabble and we still couldn't convince him.

Rightly or wrongly, from the outside the perception seems to be that all is not well behind the scenes and we look to be several years away from climbing back to the pointy end of the ladder. It's not just North we have to contend with if Gaff, Shiel, etc decide to return to Melbourne, many clubs will be lining up and we are well down the pecking order.

Jacob Townsend? Medium forward, OOC at Richmond and likely to be forced out due to Lynch.
