Another club took the player we had identified I would guess. I heard (from the receptionist at the doctors surgery!) that we had a list of two potentials and if one was gone at our turn then we wouldn't take a second player.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

      They seem to know everything.

Strange not to take the second pick, surely we had Boyd's part contract dollars to consider a second player.

Ben Hudson for shits and giggles.

Bit boring not to take a second pick Bulldogs.

Hope Gardner is productive. And doesn't get too bogged down.

                My understanding is:
We wanted Dunkley and if he was there at that pick we would have selected him then we were hoping Gardner was there at the 2nd
If we got Dunkley and Gardner was gone we would have looked at Riccardi at the 2nd pick because we were keen to add some height
With Dunkley gone before our pick Gardner fitted the need for the tall and we will keep the other pick for the National draft

Hawks might have been keen on Gardner

Agree - don't want him to be pruned shortly after coming aboard.

If this is the case, we really need to review our strategic list management processes. As others have said, some more prudent use of Cat A and B use, would have enabled us to pick Dunkley up at the start of the year, rather than hoping other clubs pass on him in a mid season draft with relatively few stand out players a available.

We just seem to be half a beat behind the rhythm right now in a number of facets.

I don't understand the process for draftees mid season. If Melbourne wa t him for next year, is it just up to them to extend him into 2020? Or can Kyle knock back an offer and request eithet a trade or go into the draft?

Why not get a good look at someone we think might have potential? What does it really cost us to have another player on the list for 6 months?

Agree, try for a small investment , 50k to player and if not continue payout $20k from what I have read. Can we rookie this player without letting them go into the draft ?

I’m kinda surprised that the club did not use the second pick given our lack of KPD. I have not seen k.dunkely play but surely it cannot be a short term investment on a 19 year old?

I spew if he becomes a midfield beast like his Brother

Josh was very good in his first year

Should have asked brad scott to put his name in . Would have been a cheap option and he would have put in a few stern words to our coaching group. A Non playing player coach

Agree. Do we think a club like Collingwood or Hawthorn would be scared at a $70k investment to get a second player on the list, even if it's only for 6 months?

                            Small club mindset.

I was thinking more Larkey or Walla's cousin for the second pick, shorter-player class forward of the ball.

Very good point GG. At the end of the day i've got a feeling he will be coming up roses.
