The other was Russell Evans from Coburg. I've never heard of him and he never played a senior game.
If I remember correctly he played full back with Coburg. Was a very good player in the VFA.

Our approach to the mid season draft will be determined by whether or not we are in contention I would think. If we are we may look for a needs based solution or perhaps just go for best performed player. If not then your suggestion could come into play. Bowman the big ruckman/forward is another 19yo I thought was unlucky not to be drafted and there will be plenty of others.

With Morris and Picken unavailable now I hope our Footscray boys put their hands up as there are a couple of opportunities up for grabs.

You had me excited for the return of the Great One for a second

I wonder if we think we need another dimension to our forwardline, officially losing Picken. If so, we might see how Jake Neade progresses at North Adelaide the next couple of months. Would be a mature, hopefully ready to play type selection.

Assuming Morris doesn't miraculously heal, which still might happen, then maybe a depth midfielder. A Jye Bolton type might be some extra insurance. Last year we were down to nearly playing Porter from memory. Maybe that creates some competition with Hayes, Porter etc, and drives them even harder.

If we are bombing for some reason (though currently undefeated!), then maybe the recruiters look to grab a good kid who missed out last year.

Will be very, very interesting to watch unfold.

Doc, he was with Geelong for 3 years and has been training with us during the preseason so he should have an advantage over some other candidates if we rate him. He's also tall, mobile and versatile which probably suits us.

How do rate him? He has some Nathan Mullenger-McHugh traits but I do think he is a better footballer

Gardiner seems like a Hamling type pick to me. Played full back in his first 2 seasons at Geelong in their VFL team then swung forward for some games last year and kicked 6 in one game. We all know Bevo loves those versatile players.

Alan's son is playing for Williamstown and apparently played well last night

I think that Gardner is probably the one we want if we're looking for a spare KPP. Can go either end and is 198cms, dunno about his mobility but he'd fill that second ruck spot.

As an aside, I saw a bit of NMM in the Box Hill VFL game.
He still moves really well but just doesn't stay involved enough in the game. Could well be a 'late bloomer' type, still just seems to have a bit of talent about him.

If my mate is correct he could also be the only player ever taken in two mid season drafts.
I loved watching Alan Thorpe play the game. He had class and a safe pair of hands. I vaguely remember Russell Evans because I worked as a ground attendant at the time and had to be in place at the start of the reserves. He only played half a dozen or so games in the ressies and was a good player but he was just too short to play in a key position at AFL level so he went back to Coburg before the end of the season.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

So just four weeks away. One selection confirmed (Picken), and maybe a second (Morris).

well I think Reuben William would be worth a try.

While I think both of us have rated him for a couple of years could we really justify adding another defender to the list?
