Just when you thought you heard the most ridiculous rule changes they trial this in the VFL

Three players to be stationed inside 50 metres at each stoppage

A minimum of three Players from each team to be stationed inside 50 metres – including one pair in the Goal Square – at all Kick Ins and Boundary Throw Ins. The officiating Umpire will not recommence play until all players are in position.

Where a team fails to comply at a Boundary Throw In, a Free Kick shall be awarded to the Player of the opposing Team at the point of the stoppage. Where the attacking team fails to comply at a Kick In, a 50-metre Penalty shall be awarded to the defending team.

If all the clubs don't like the rule all the club presidents need to inform the AFL that they want it removed.
May be its time the clubs unite and stand for some sanity in the football world.

That'll just make the perverts at head office even hotter for the changes. You reckon what's been happening in federal parliament is bad, just wait until the AFL is challenged by the clubs on their shitty rules. They'll be going through desks at AFL HQ at an alarming rate.
        TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

How are you meant to have a pair in each goal square for kick ins?

Was there alot of stopping and counting and checking where players were?

This was the reason I was against 6.6.6, because this is just an extension.

The standing still on the mark, is also another complication for umpires who have to keep an eye out for the players.

It is just over officiating the game and not enhancing it.

Yes, the game grinds to a halt at times while they’re resetting.

American grid iron developed from Rugby in its early years and yet now it hardly resembles Rugby Union at all.

We are heading down the same path with the stop start, checking positions, waiting for video goal reviews. In ten years time we won't recognise the game.

The thing I have always loved about Aussie rules is the non stop action and flow of the game, but these people in AFL HQ just don't get it. I know I have banged on about the rules for along time, but the last 5 years have really been the worse years for change and it is all coming home to roost. They are killing the goose that laid the golden egg.

Clubs must stand up to this nonsense.

Stop, start has potential for more add, plus it gives the TV viewers, the ones the boys in Head Office care about, time to get a beer, grab a snack or make a quick dash to the toilet. With regards to television TV rights, what’s not to like.

Of course, if you like watching the game live ... well that’s another story

Hardwick hates the zone rules too:

"It's nothing like AFL ... the free kicks today were laughable."

The AFL wrote to all 22 VFL clubs on Wednesday afternoon, informing them that the strict new rules had been softened and will now only be implemented for boundary throw-ins.

Previously, players had to be in their zones for boundary throw-ins and for all kick-ins.

In addition, each team will now only be required to have two players inside the 50m arc for such stoppages, rather than three, while no players will be required in the goalsquare.

I'd prefer to scrap any zone rules altogether, but this should make it easier for the game to flow compared to what they were planning (which was complete garbage). Hopefully they pull the pin on it entirely prior to the season and let players develop with the same ruleset as senior level.
