    2021 Trade Period Talk

Freo & Brisbane will be active.

Cerra wants a trade to a Melbourne club.

According to Fox Sports News Lachie Neale wants to go to Freo. Freo have Pick 8, Future First & Cerra pick/s. (At least one First Rounder)

Brisbane could get three First Rounders, maybe handing a Future second back.

That leaves Brisbane with 4 x First Rounders & 2 x Future First Rounders. You’d expect them to trade aggressively with that kind of war chest.

Do Carlton have anything the Lions need? (Thinking a 3 way deal).

Not that they’d give up. McKay, Walsh & Weitering non starters. Despite 100% of the cap. There’s not a heap of guns.

With the Sydney cap exploding. They could get Parker as a Free Agent and trade for another good young player off them, Stephens. Maybe package two late First Rounders for another Top 10 pick.

      Out: Neale, Picks
In: Parker, Stephens, 2 x Top 10 Picks for use or trade

After the Brisbane list manager gets over the annoyance. He will see an amazing opportunity.

Upside for us - they would be unlikely to need late second rounders and third rounders with being in their window and having limited spots free. Could be a good club to work with for pick swaps.

I tend to think losing Neale can probably benefit the Lions.

He's a very good player, but he's not Martin/Bont good.

If they can flip him into a couple of good players they'll be fine, but that might be easier said than done.

That's what I think too. They can turn this to their advantage.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Well his B&F finishes at Freo were 1st, 3rd, 1st then he went to Brisbane and won a Brownlow.
He had 46 touches in the first final for Brisbane.

He is about as rolled gold a player as you can find. He'll also be 29 next year so who knows how you value a player like that. I have a sneaking suspicion a deal doesn't get done as the cost vs impact might not add up for Freo.

Vardy is available? Do we think he can fill the ruck role? He is 30 years old and listed as retired.

Surely he is now mature enough to go back to Geelong

Parker off the market. Just signed with Sydney for 4 more years.

I read somewhere Sydney have salary cap issues. Surely there is someone there we can snag

They look set to shed Stephens (former pick 5) to a SA club and McLean (promising 197cm forward). Jordan Dawson hasn't signed yet, one of the best kicks in the competition off the HB line and finished pretty high up in their B&F. I expect teams will go hard for him but Sydney make his signing a priority.

Sinclair might be shopped but a big man who has lost two years to knee issues isn't likely to be an attractive prospect.

Buddy's back ended deal is hitting them hard. George Hewitt linked to Carlton is another rumoured departure.

If we win the flag our first pick could be quite valuable and helps us earn Darcy points.

                              RECRUITERS EYE PICK NO.20

CLUBS believe pick No.20 could become hot property at this year's NAB AFL Draft as the last chance rivals will claim Next Generation Academy prospects without forcing a bid.

Under new rules this year, clubs will not be able to match bids on Next Generation Academy prospects within the first 20 selections as the AFL makes that a 'protected zone' of the draft.

From pick No.21 to 40, clubs can match bids under the usual Academy and father-son bidding system and after pick 40 are able to match with their next available pick.

But it means there could be a rush on draft night for clubs trying to trade up to pick 20 to ensure they get full access to a NGA player without that prospect's holder club getting a chance to match the bid.

St Kilda pair Marcus Windhager and Mitchito Owens shape as the most likely NGA prospects to push into top-20 contention outside of Melbourne's Mac Andrew, who appears certain to attract a top-15 bid and be unavailable for the Demons.

Holding pick No.20 could be an added bonus for this year's premiers, with their No.18 pick likely to be bumped back two spots due to earlier bids on father-son pair Nick Daicos (Collingwood) and Sam Darcy (Western Bulldogs). The fluid draft order means who holds pick 20 could shift as the night goes on but the protected zone will stop at No.20 no matter how many bids are made.

The draft will this year return to a two-night affair with the first round taking place on the opening night before the rest of the draft the following evening.

That format at the 2018-19 drafts saw the first pick of the second round be extremely sought after by clubs who wanted to trade up the board to grab players who had fallen through the first night. Brisbane essentially traded a future-second round pick to Port Adelaide to move up one spot in 2019 to grab Deven Robertson. – Callum Twomey
