The Bulldogs are expected to use just one pick outside the top 30 in the national draft, so it will be a case of wait and see who gets through. That selection may also come in a few spots given the Lions' selections before them will be go out due to earlier bids. Versatile defender Tom McCallum may be in the mix if he is still on the board, wingman Caleb Mitchell has captured some attention, as has versatile South Australian defender Shaun Bennier, while clubs may also see WA prospect Sam Gilbey as a potential steal after an injury-hit year. The Dogs are poised to grab delisted Demons wingman Oskar Baker as a pre-season supplemental selection period signing next week.

Who do they get at first pick: Ed Allan, Oliver Hollands, Jedd Busslinger

The Bulldogs are believed to be big fans of hard-running midfielders Allan and Hollands, but there is also a view that they could select a key defender like Busslinger with their first pick. With Hollands being heavily linked to Carlton the pick before, Allan could be the man. He is a good size at 194cm and was the quickest player over 20m at the national draft combine after producing an impressive back end of the season.

Who’s in the mix after that: Brayden George, Lachie Cowan, Max Gruzewski, Rhett Montgomerie

A powerful mid-sized forward like George would suit the Bulldogs well and is right in the range at their second selection. He will be sidelined in 2023 as he recovers from a recent ACL injury, but is a highly-rated prospect with huge potential. Gruzewski could also come into the frame if the Bulldogs don’t take a key defender with their first pick. He is a 193cm swingman who can play forward or back and could be a third-tall type interceptor.

Late mail: A lot depends on what happens in the few picks before the Bulldogs. There is every chance Allan, Hollands and Busslinger could already be off the board.

Contracted: 38 (one category B rookie).

List needs: Long-term key defender.

Three different types of players - midfielder Ollie Hollands, intercepting key defender Jedd Busslinger and 190-centimetre mid-forward Mattaes Phillipou - are believed to be firmly in the Western Bulldogs’ sights. Multiple clubs in the top 10 are interested in Phillipou, while Carlton, which pick right before the Dogs, are keen on Hollands. Busslinger would add to the club’s WA stocks, which already include Aaron Naughton, Tim English, Jason Johannisen, Riley Garcia and Arthur Jones. Lachie Cowan would be strongly considered if he is still available at pick 21, where the Dogs could also place a bid on Essendon father-son Alwyn Davey jnr. Other options might be Jakob Ryan - if he isn’t snapped up in the first round - or Olli Hotton. Buku Khamis and Jordon Sweet will be upgraded to the primary list.

GVGjr do you know how Charlie Clarke tested for sprints at the combine?

He did well in the 2km time trial (6.26m) and poor in the other tests. His sprint times were in the lower bracket.
He is in the mix because he is a very good reader of the play and makes quick decisions.

So that would give us a midfielder, a defender and a forward and would be an outstanding effort. We will take Busslinger though which probably runs a line through taking Weddle.

We could easily take both - the tall interceptor Busslinger and the smaller, ridiculous athlete Weddle who shut down Cadman in a game.

If they're the best available at our picks, I think we'd jump. I'd still like George at our second pick if we don't get Allen at 1 though though - a boom or bust pick who has potential 'match-winner' in him.
