Is Harris Andrews particularly quick? Weitering? They don't appear to be to my eye.

I don't think you need to be quick to be a good key defender, however the best are elite at positioning and reading the play and flight of the ball.

Whether Buss is good enough to compensate for a lack of speed is the question.

I don't think he plays like those guys - they play tall. I see him more as a d2 type.

Agree though if he can work within his physical constraints and get some assistance around him then that's his best chance.

Re-quote this when the bus is built like Harris and Weitering, and plays as tall as both (That will take 2-3 years minimum, and Bont will be 33).
Look at their chest, hips and legs.
It is not a great comparison or argument to make right now, as he is this slow, without the weight.

I think the key with Weitering, from early days, and Andrews in recent days, is having the body strength to hold their elite positioning when competing for the ball. Both are over 100kg.

Buss gets pushed aside too easily. I believe has the attributes and nous necessary to succeed but he needs to build more muscle. I reckon he’s well under 90kg and, at that weight, most key forwards are going to outmatch him when one-on-one.

The bloke left Gold Coast and arrived at Carlton and was promptly suspended because of extra curricula activities. Took more time off mid-season because of MH. Carlton have asked him to explore his options after only one season.

I'd pass on him as well, though this was his second year at Carlton with his suspension relating to issues from 2023.

There's mental health issues, and personal reasons..........the latter usually code for something other than mental health issues and from the reporting that's the case with Hollands.

He's a good player, hopefully he gets it together.

I heard that his brother moved out of the house they shared to distance himself from Elijah's poor decisions. If his own brother doesn't want to be around him....I'm not sure he's the right fit for us.

Most definitely letting him go through to the keeper, and the keeper is letting him go for 4 byes.

I'm not normally a massive fan of re-rookieing players who have had their chance on the main list but I would be happy to make an exception for Scott this year. A depth player who can be 100% trusted to contribute at senior level. I also think he deserves it on merit - he has shot the lights out at VFL level the last 4-6 weeks.

It's a marginal call and I get the delist Scott argument. The injury/concussion history is clearly part of the decision-process.

Yeah agree and you have to weigh up the fact will Scott be better value then a guy in the 60's or 70's range of the draft , i think he gets the nod every day of the week in that sense,
and if he gets his body right could be a really valuable spare bits player .

We can always try the forward/swingman role. The goal he kicked in Q4 on Sunday was a pearler.

He was moved forward because he was useless in the backline. Turnovers brought Southport back into the game and between him, Gardner and Jones they cost us a few. There were also a few defensive marking contests where he didn't even compete.

The only times I noticed him stay down were when Jones and/or Gardner were already flying to spoil. I was thankful that we had a defender choosing not to engage in the contest.

I’m actually very comfortable with this. We do seem to be very stable, balanced and well organised

We know JJ is 'on hold' and we know Liam and Scott have been told no.
We will have to wait and see with Poulter, Baker and Coffield.
Khamis and Marra are likely to move on.
