Taylor Duryea has announced his retirement.

The Western Bulldogs defender this afternoon told his teammates that the 2025 season would be his last at AFL level.

Duryea, 34, has played 219 games at Hawthorn and the Dogs after being taken at pick 69 in the 2009 national draft.

He became a two-time premiership player at the Hawks, playing in the 2014 and 2015 flag-winning sides.

Duryea was traded to the Dogs ahead of the 2019 season and proved an excellent pick-up across seven seasons.

He played in the Bulldogs’ 2021 Grand Final loss to Melbourne.

It's time but I can only thank Doc for his fantastic career and service with us. My absolute favourite moment of his was in the last minute of the 2021 SF against Brisbane - he was stuck in deep water, isolated one-out in D50 against Charlie Cameron, but he managed to halve the aerial contest and then get it out of bounds against a white-hot player who was at his absolute peak and probably 5 yards quicker than him.

I loved that moment so much.

EDIT - it wasn't a marking contest but a one-on-one groundball in D50, which is insanely better against someone like Cameron in his prime

What a great addition to the club. Absolute goer. Will never forget the Charlie Cameron run down in 2021.

Father time caught up with him. Doc has been an important onfield coach for a while now. He was exactly what we needed when he moved over to us from Hawthorn. Classy, gutsy, agile, loved to watch his skill and read of play. Onya Doc.

He has been fantastic for us since coming over from the Hawks. Played 101 games at the Dogs and 118 at the Hawks.

Hopefully he goes into coaching as he will be invaluable.

I think coaching will be the natural follow on.

Hopefully we can find a spot for him.

Agreed, he's been informally coaching a while now I've heard. He was part of a Bulldogs coaching immersion day in February this year so perhaps he's already been earning his points? Be nice if we have a role for him.

I remember being skeptical of picking him up, and then in his very first game he blasted an absolute nuke of a goal that pretty much set all my doubts at ease. He’s been a fantastic player and that Cameron stop is one of the biggest individual moments in the club’s history. Well done Doc.

Wonderful pick up and has added plenty to the club during his time. Hopefully he goes out with a VFL flag and then a long coaching career beckons.
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

Like you, I was wary of picking him up, but very glad we did. Been great for the club!

Thanks Doc. Great career. Two time premiership player and could potentially play in a VFL premiership side this year. Best of luck to him as he navigates the world of post AFL.

Congratulations on a wonderful career Doc. 2 flags, plus a grand final, is a mighty effort.

I wonder if he would stay at Footscray next year?

I've seen the future, and his name is Latrelle Sumner-Pickett

19 yo, been playing reserves for Glenelg this year, finally unleashed him yesterday for his first league match, kicked 4.1, 16 posessions and gave a goal away. Lightning speed, great skills, and a great leap. Believe he may have been a little wayward a few years ago but at a great club with great mentors , coaches and maturity he's been wonderful this season. So if there's room on ourt list for a wingman, half forward, goal sneak, small forward well worth considering.
