One more pick to go. Mackinlay still on the board.
Port might take whatever small we want (Mackinlay or otherwise) though.
Edit- Yep, Port took Mackinlay.

May slipped past all the rumoured clubs most likely to snap him up before the Pies.
Haha, two picks to go- enter Essendon. Nobody had linked them to him but it is such an Essendon play- maybe their recruitment should just continue to be “spend all our resources trying to work out who other clubs want and take them first”.Leave a comment:

I did read that Port had interest in him especially being an SA lad and they have picks before ours, sounds like both Sellwood and McKinlay would be a nice fit but we may only end up with one, my guess would be Sellwood first if still available then the small forward second as there are a few options for that type, Ranch, Raso.Leave a comment:

Just watched Sellwood's highlights from the WA vs SA match. Looks great in the air, kicking is neat. Good size for a that hybrid small/mid defender. With Cleary & Bramble still not locks, Duryea &. JJ almost done, we need to keep cycling through that 6/7th defender role to find the best fit. I'm sold.Leave a comment:

This will be Michael Regan's first draft as our new Player Acquisition and Strategy Manager. Is there any evidence that he is adopting a different approach/strategy to what we have done in the past? I guess until the draft it's more in the identification phase.Leave a comment:

That's the big question but I have always thought you just take the player you want the most.👍 1Leave a comment:

I'd be just a bit surprised if we went for Mackinlay before Sellwood but from a genuine needs perspective it might make sense.
Ch 9 Projecting how the first round of the draft could play out:
1. West Coast: Tom McCarthy (Richmond, VFL)
2. North Melbourne: Archer May (Subiaco)
3. Port Adelaide: Harrison Ramm (Glenelg, SANFL)
4. Carlton: Jacob Newton (Norwood, SANFL)
5. Essendon: Lachlan Blakiston (East Fremantle, WAFL)
6. Bulldogs: Ewan Mackinlay (North Adelaide, SANFL)
7. Gold Coast: Caleb Lewis (Casey, VFL)
8. Collingwood: Joshua Browne (Collingwood, VFL)Leave a comment:

With final list lodgements, we have Pick 5 and then Pick 12 (only 3 teams ahead of us in the second round). It is wild to think that Essendon are looking at potentially playing at least one of their 4 picks the next night- although from memory we did that with Gardner (as a forward) didn't we?
On a bit of a tangent (following on from a post of mine above): Sounds like North Melbourne are looking at taking Archer May. Collingwood want him and allegedly went so far as to tell him not to play on the weekend and instructed him to also put an 18 month contract on his head (to hopefully lessen the likelihood that someone else would take him).
Some speculation across various places:
Mid-season draft state of play: Order of picks locked as players your club’s linked to revealed
The Western Bulldogs on Tuesday officially opened a second list spot ahead of Wednesday night’s draft. They already had an opening after opting against filling their list during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP). But forward Cody Weightman (knee) has been moved to the inactive list, therefore giving the Dogs flexibility to take a second player at the rookie draft if they want.
The Dogs have been linked to all of Banch, Mackinlay and Sellwood, while they’ve continued to monitor Werribee star midfielder Dom Brew after he trained with – but was ultimately overlooked by – the Bulldogs during the SSP after winning the JJ Liston Trophy last year as the VFL’s best player. Brew has averaged 29.3 disposals, 10.3 clearances and 9.0 tackles from eight VFL matches in 2025.
His Tigers teammate Massimo Raso is on the radar of several clubs seeking a small forward, with North Melbourne and Western Bulldogs among the clubs interested- and- the Western Bulldogs have interviewed Gippsland tall Zac Walker and athletic Calder forward Cooper Herbert.

West Coast has also been linked to 21-year-old defender Michael Sellwood, who’s performed well for Peel Thunder this season averaging 23.7 disposals and 7.5 marks from six WAFL games while racking up 19 disposals and eight marks in the WA-SA state game last weekend. Sellwood confirmed to SEN WA this week he’d had a medical with the Western Bulldogs, who rival clubs believe could be eyeing a running defender at next week’s draft with their natural open spot after opting against filling their list during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).
However the Bulldogs have also been linked to two small forwards: Werribee star Zac Banch(175cm) — who’s kicked 8.8 and averaged 16.2 disposals from his past five VFL games — and 182cm North Adelaide goalkicker Ewan Mackinlay — who’s impressed clubs with his speed and power, as well as his kicking skills in the front half. Mackinlay, who’s kicked 5.7 and averaged 16.2 disposals from six SANFL games, also has interest from Port Adelaide, who rival clubs believe are on the hunt for a player speed in the forward half next week.
The mid-season draft has become a regular fixture in the footy calendar, and its next instalment arrives on Wednesday. ESPN draft expert Jasper Chellappah takes a look at the top prospects your club might take.
West Coast has also been linked to 21-year-old Peel defender Michael Sellwood and former Cat Brandan Parfitt, who has dominated for Perth, but are not expected to add another list spot on top of the one created by Dom Sheed's ACL injury. The Power and Dogs are looking at the strongly built Sellwood to add immediate depth in defence...and...The Dogs have been linked to a raft of small forwards given Cody Weightman's long-term layoff and Werribee's Zac Banch may be at the top of that list after kicking eight goals in his past five outings. Richmond's Massimo Raso and Sam Toner have had their moments this season and North Adelaide's Ewan Mackinlay continues to generate buzz.

Several familiar faces are among the contenders as the AFL releases the full list of nominees for Wednesday night's draft
ESSENDON and Port Adelaide will have seven of the 18 picks between them in Wednesday night's AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.
The final draft order was confirmed on Tuesday after clubs made further list changes, with eight clubs having at least one pick.
The injury-hit Bombers will have four picks available, while the Power will have three after they moved injured trio Todd Marshall, Tom Cochrane and Xavier Walsh to the inactive list.

North Melbourne, the Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast and Collingwood also have two picks each, while Carlton has one pick, the No.4 selection.
Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Geelong, Greater Western Sydney, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda and Sydney do not have a pick.

Mid-Season Draft Guide: How to watch, the players in contention
Clubs get picks in the mid-season draft only if they have a list vacancy, which can be opened up by moving a long-term injured player to the inactive list.
Due to Essendon and Gold Coast having played one fewer game than every other club, a winning percentage ladder determines the draft order, with clubs on the same winning percentage to be separated by their regular for and against percentage.

Add Werribee's Flynn Young to the list of players we have interviewed or done medicals with.

Rypstra might not have been the most diligent performing his rehab otherwise I think we might have given him another season.👍 2Leave a comment:
