If these are genuine deficits in his game, why are we so keen to add him in this scenario? Do you think he can cover those weaknesses in our development program, or the upside of his attributes mean it doesn’t matter - he’ll fill a need and we don’t need him to win ball / have a defensive ability / break a tag?
Think clubs have decided he’s an extremely outside player, so doesn’t have that top end quality to end up as a midfielder, and I heard teams started putting a player on him in the second half of the year and he struggled, I haven’t seen or read much about his defensive work eitherHave you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?Comment

Think he’s a high end talent who if fallen to us, is a steal. He’s not walking into the AFL and getting tagged and he compliments Dale.

I’m happy to live in hope that our development team could help him reach his potential👍 1Comment

Nhill Tiger and Waratah player Clay Shadforth in contention to be drafted
A cattle station worker from the NT who has played footy in country Victoria could be the biggest AFL draft bolter of the year after being invited to trial with an AFL club. Meet him here.
A Northern Territory cattle station worker who played footy in country Victoria this year is shaping as one of history’s biggest AFL Draft bolters.
Clay Shadforth underwent private testing with an unnamed AFL club on the weekend as he looks to follow in the footsteps of Port Adelaide small forward Joe Richards who was plucked from local footy by Collingwood in 2022.
The 19-year-old spent the winter months playing for Nhill in the Wimmera league in western Victoria and is now back with Waratah in the NTFL.
He also made three appearances for the NT in the Coates Talent League as a small forward who enjoys stints in the midfield.
Waratah coach Ricky Nolan has worked closely with the teenager for the last two seasons and has been impressed with several of his traits.
Nolan’s coaching career has included time with Daniel Rioli, Maurice Rioli Jnr, Willie Rioli and Ben Long at St Mary’s, but he said Shadforth stood out in one area.
”He’s as hard a trainer as any of those boys I had in my time,” Nolan said.
“During the week he helps out the family cattle station, he’ll be fencing all day and then drive all the way to Darwin to train.
“He’s the full package on and off the field.
“They were all lovely kids and Clay is just the same.
“He certainly matches all the boys who have gone to make it.”
Nolan said Shadforth also had the qualities to leave the NT and embrace a new environment.
“He’s a ripper kid, so well mannered,” he said.
“His work ethic is as good as anyone I’ve ever seen.
“He’s the first to training and last to leave.
“He went to Adelaide for boarding school.
“He’s proven he can leave the Territory.”
To start the NTFL season, he’s been used through the middle and has shown an ability to have an impact inside and outside of contested areas.
At Nhill, Shadforth showcased his X-Factor, according to Tigers coach Jake McQueen.
He kicked 22 goals in 16 games including four in the preliminary final against premier Ararat.
“He was a brilliant player for us this year,” McQueen said.
“He can kick you three or four goals in a quarter or make a courageous tackle that we need at a pivotal time.
“He tends to pop up at the most important time.
“That’s part of the reason why he’s getting looked at, he’s got a lot of talent and is skillful on both feet.
“I’m really hoping he gets the opportunity, he’s got every attribute to go far in the AFL if he gets into the system.”
McQueen said while Shadforth would be a major loss to the Tigers, who have signed him for next year, he wanted to see him excel.
“He just really enjoyed himself at our club and I think his family have said he came back a new man,” he said.
“All of those things just add up and now he has the opportunity.
“We couldn’t be more proud of him as a club.”
The AFL national draft will be held on November 19 and 20.

Updated mock draft. Twomey mentioned yesterday that if Carlton don't trade pick 9 and 11 that pick 9 will be eaten up with a Dean bid and pick 11 will slide back a bit how much I haven't figured out so if anyone can help me if a bid comes at pick 8? Brisbane 20 and 21 will be chewed up as well but I'll figure that in a later mock👍 3Comment

West Coast weighing up shock draft play for Harry Dean
Harry Dean is the best key defender in this year’s draft class, but the Blues are prepared for a fight to get their hands on the father-son prospect, as one rival club weighs up a bombshell move.
Carlton is prepared for a bid on father-son prospect Harry Dean to come as early as pick two after an eye-catching season from the emerging key defender.
It is understood West Coast – which holds the first two picks in next month’s national draft – is a big fan of Dean and could make an earlier-than-expected play on the Murray Bushrangers product.
Dean has been rated a top-five prospect by some recruiters since starring for Vic Country during the under-18 national championships mid-year, where he showcased exceptional one-on-one traits and intercept ability.
Measuring 194cm, he is clearly the best key defender in the draft pool, with the backline being an area of the ground that the Eagles would love to strengthen.
While rival clubs expect West Coast to land midfielder-forward Willem Duursma and ruck-forward Cooper Duff-Tytler with their first two selections, an early bid on Dean would have a significant impact on Carlton’s draft hand.
The Blues would require 2,233 draft points to match a bid on Dean at pick two, which would swallow up their current pick 9 and push their pick 11 well into the second round of the draft.
If Dean doesn’t receive a bid from the Eagles, he is not expected to get past Richmond (picks three and four) and Essendon (picks five and six) before having his name read.
However, a bid at pick 5 would only cost Carlton 1,616 draft points – swallowing pick 9 and pushing pick 11 back only a few spots.
Carlton is more bullish on this year’s draft than some other clubs, though, and believes it can find a quality player to complement its list regardless of how far pick 11 slides back.
In addition to Dean, the Blues are planning to make three other selections in the national draft, with Next Generation Academy prospect Jack Ison being another player firmly in their sights.
Some clubs have shied away from placing early bids on high-end draft talents in recent years, with Brisbane father-son Levi Ashcroft not receiving a bid until pick 5 last year and Collingwood father-son Nick Daicos famously slipping to pick 4 before having his name read out in 2021.
But West Coast could kick off the bidding this year, with Richmond also having no qualms about bidding on Northern Academy-linked players including Zeke Uwland and Dylan Patterson (both Gold Coast) and potentially even Daniel Annable (Brisbane Lions) in a highly-compromised top-end of the draft.
Dean – the son of two-time Blues premiership player Peter – met with seven clubs including Carlton at the national draft combine earlier this month and told this masthead he had long dreamed of a move to Princes Park.
“I’d like to play anywhere in football – to play at any club – but to pull on the Navy Blue would be pretty special for not just dad but also my family as well,” he said.
The national draft will be held on November 19 and 20.
