That was my understanding as well. We have to use a draft pick, not a rookie position to secure him.

Didn't Collingwood decline to F/S James Stewart and he ended up going to GWS with a pick in the mid-20's?

Jolly moved back to Melbourne for family reasons I doubt he'll go back to Sydney.

Would be surprised if he knocked back a cash cow year up there given it will probably be his last.

Surely GWS would be interested if he wants to/can play on bearing in mind he will be 32 next year? Might put an end to the Minson and Pick 4 trade deal for Boyd that some posters would like to see...

Just on Minson, I do not want him to go at all.

But his girlfriend has moved to Sydney.......

I'd be surprised is GWS or any team picked him up, he looks done to me (otherwise the Pies would have kept him), whilst GWS do need to inject some experience in they'd be far better off going after players with more than just one season in them, especially a ruckman playing off one leg..

I'd be surprised is GWS or any team picked him up, he looks done to me (otherwise the Pies would have kept him), whilst GWS do need to inject some experience in they'd be far better off going after players with more than just one season in them, especially a ruckman playing off one leg..

I think he would still have something to offer them both from a playing and coaching perspective. They do need a good ruck coach and Jolly is intelligent and well spoken and he has the credits in the bank re. respect as a footballer.

If he can put his body through another preseason there is no reason why he can't play 15 games for them next year. He is still a dangerous player due to his ability to push forward. Like us and Crossy, Jolly has been pushed out of Collingwood due to the emergence of youth faster than expected (e.g. Grundy, Witts and Keeffe) and the acquisition of Lynch who can relief ruck.

I don't think its as simple as that. From my reading, if no one bids on Foster, then we have the right to use our last national draft pick on him. If we decline (hoping to rookie him instead) then Foster will go into the draft where any club can change their mind and draft him on the day. Only is no club selects him on draft day, then we can pre-select him as a rookie.

Otherwise they are effectively going through the ND twice.

I thought that the bidding process is basically the draft minus all the non-father son players, so if the player makes it through without a bid he is effectively undrafted and therefore it's up to the AFL club if they would like to rookie them or draft them. Otherwise they are effectively going through the ND twice.

Is HKB saying if we decline to take Foster as a main list selection? He then can nominate for the draft.

Brogan is staying on as an assistant coach. Most probably as a ruck coach too.

Melbourne would likely put pick 2 on the table for Adams and change or should anyway.

Wouldn't want him culturally at our home but he can play and Melb have no culture anymore anyway.
