How would that work? Come bidding time if no clubs place a bid on young fossie we can claim him as a rookie selection?

      Yes. Exactly.

If no one bids for Foster in the national draft I believe we can take him with our last selection in the rookie draft.

        FATHER-SON – ROOKIE PRE-SELECTION

The Father-Son Rule previously applied to players selected at the National Draft. Under the rule, other AFL clubs can bid for eligible players who have been nominated under the Father-Son Rule by an eligible club. The nominating club can select the eligible player by forfeiting its next available pick in the draft if a bid has been made by another club. If there is no bid from another club, the nominating club forfeits its last pick in the National Draft.

A club can pre-select an eligible player as a Category A rookie between the Pre-Season and Rookie Drafts (with the player’s consent) provided the player had nominated for but was not selected by another club at either the National or Pre-Season Drafts. In that case, the relevant club would forfeit its last available selection in the Rookie Draft to take the player.

Thanks for posting that bulldogsman. Last pick in the rookie draft would be a good result. It sounds as if thats how it will end up unless he keeps impressing in the finals.

Gumbleton's not up to it. No good below his knees ( numerous hamstring / back issues )
Just hope like hell the club doesn't go " fringe player" option .

Surely GWS would be interested if he wants to/can play on bearing in mind he will be 32 next year? Might put an end to the Minson and Pick 4 trade deal for Boyd that some posters would like to see...
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Jolly moved back to Melbourne for family reasons I doubt he'll go back to Sydney.

Depends on whether that was just a line or not.

Everyone needs a job and there are only 18 teams.

Wasn't it something to do with his wife who had post natal depression?

True but he seems like a smart guy and I'm sure he's invested wisely. If his only option is to go to NSW or QLD and doesn't want to I'm sure he'll survive.

I don't think its as simple as that. From my reading, if no one bids on Foster, then we have the right to use our last national draft pick on him. If we decline (hoping to rookie him instead) then Foster will go into the draft where any club can change their mind and draft him on the day. Only is no club selects him on draft day, then we can pre-select him as a rookie.

That was my understanding as well. We have to use a draft pick, not a rookie position to secure him.

That's how I read it too.

The situation occurred with Brennan at West Coast, no one bid on him so they took him with their last selection in the main draft.
