Read somewhere that Shaun McKernan wants to return to Victoria and we maybe looking at him.

Haven't watched many Crows games lately - is he any good?

Edit: Didn't see T&T's earlier post

Not a player but a massive story, especially with our rumoured links with Crameri. If this comes to pass we will get him for nothing. This could potentially be more damaging to Essendon than any draft restrictions.

Quote: "THE AFL Commission will consider allowing any disgruntled Essendon players to leave the club as delisted free agents following a request by the AFL Players Association."

In that case Macca should try to get everyone he can for dirt. We had $450,000 left in the cap, plus now Crossy's decent wage, we have the cash to buy players so if its not costing picks, lets be like a fat kid at an ice cream buffet.

The only clear downside are the rumblings that all but about 2 players will still get suspensions.

That's the risk - but for no picks we're paying 95% of the salary cap - paying the extra 5% with no draft impact doesn't impact on our list in the short term.

There is a chance IF any penalties are handed down they'd be 6 month suspensions, which means we'd get more out of their first year than Higgins & Williams combined anyway,.

For the right player, if we get them for nothing, we let them ride out the two years then play them.

Was talking about this last week. Would you contract, say, 4 players even if they were suspended? Warehouse them on the list and explain that next year that means at least 4 players will be dropped and those who don't perform are in he gun.

I don't know. It's entering such uncharted waters. What would be the effect on he playing group knowing that a large part of the list are playing for their spots? Apart from anything else, it would be a fascinating social experiment.

Addison or Gumby. On the same wage.
Pearce or Jetta. On the same wage.
Crameri or Vez (already gone). Increased wage.
Higgins/Williams or a good player. Similar wage.

If we have players not guaranteed of long term best 22, maybe the risk is worth it. Not necessarily advocating it, but makes for a interesting discussion if they want to rejoin Macca at no cost other than taking a fringe players spot with a similar wage...

Aside from being carrion to Essendon's players (bring it on, it's just the other side of the Maribyrnong River!) I'd rather go with developing our own with the help of Crameri.
Crossy to Melbourne I hope happens. He owes us nothing but the game and Melbourne still need him.

I guess 4 is a lot considering we have Higgins & Williams and well as developing project types like Prudden and Roberts.

There would be a range of factors involved:
                          - Length of suspension (6 months and 2 years is a massive difference)
                          - Age of players (how much football would we get out of them in the long run)
                          - Durability (I probably rate this asset higher than most here)
                          - Plug vs upgrade (if it's a mild upgrade on players we have playing a similar position vs a type we genuinely lack)

If ASADA smacked them down with 6 months I'd take 2 wihout a problem, 3 depending on who was on offer.

A left-field question - if players were banned for an amoutn of time, would the AFL allow rookies to be upgraded in their place during the suspension time? Similar to the LTI list.

Guys this is about media rumours etc not speculation. Unless there is an article linking us to specific players then we don't discuss it, on this thread.

Start another thread if you need to.
