If that happens I will lose total respect for the list manager and the coach
I'm not sure the credibility of the list manager and the coach should be questioned based on a bit of speculation. When there is a bit more of a basis to it then fine but currently it's premature to say the least.

I think Grant is an important part of our team but if the coach disagrees so be it.
How about instead of that we offer Grant and pick 22 for Doherty and Brisbanes 2nd round pick (i think 24) or so. And then tell Essendon they took too long for the Crameri deal and we'll get him through PSD
28 would be pissing away Grant. I would be exceptionally disappointed IF TRUE.
So no Docherty, no Grant and probably pick 30 after FA's. We lose.

Not if he didn't want to sign with us for next year and beyond. #28 would be good value if that were the case.
Isn't that the sticking point he wants more than next year and he wants the beyond, we are only offering next year.
Not saying we should, but If we offered him a three year deal I imagine he would jump at it.

What would be worse, offering Grant a second year or getting pick 30.
Everyone has a different opinion, but I'm not excited about draft prospects from around the 23-25 pick range. 30 just isn't enough compo for the sake of offering a second year on performance or outright.

Agree the percentages of picking up a player with Grant's potential is very slim once you get into the second round.
BMac might have a inkling he is about to drop the ball again and think his value is as good as it is ever going to be.

Grant was offered 1 year and a 2nd depending on games played if he thinks he is good enough to get a game then he shouldn't be worried about 2nd year it will come automatically

Not sure, a lot of speculation but from my understanding it's 1 year with a 2nd optional which is performance based. If it were me I'd give him the 2nd year regardless.
If he's balking at the contract we offered and we're not prepared to give him another year pick #28 is great value for Grant which was my point. We're all saying Crameri is only worth pick #22 but Grant is in the exact same position right now and you've got people asking for more?

If you are confident in your playing ability you shouldn't have a problem with the deal. If I was Grant I would be after some injury insurance in that deal but if he can hold his place in the seniors the extra years will be added.
