    Recruiting Speculation File 2013

Not specifically liked to us yet, but Docherty rumoured to be wanting to return to Melbourne.

Would be the rebounding defender we need. With an Adam ro Docherty available, I'm warming to the idea of trading down our pick 4 if we can stay in the first round of the draft.

AFL has indicated they may allow Essendon players to be free agents if they want to leave, ie able to break their contract.

Imagine the shitfight if we recruit Essendon players (even as free agents) then they get rubbed out by WADA/ASADA.

Make the Lower recruitment pale into insignificance

          I'm more hopeful Hibberd is.

Carlisle and Roughead are very similar, and while all the hype was around Carlisle at the start of the year he didn't end the season particularly well. I'm of the view Roughead is ahead of him.

I think there is zero chance the AFL will allow, let alone facilitate the wholesale decimation of Essendon.

Even if they did I could not see B Mac being party to the rapine and pillaging of his friend's team.

Crameri as a trade already in prospect prior to sanctions is a different matter. Perhaps if an odd player wanted out, and was determined to go regardless of if we were interested or not, might sway us to consider one more, particularly if they had an express wish to become a Dog [ and yeah Carlisle might look good in RW&B].

Do you not think the AFL may feel betrayed by Essendon announcing they have extended Hirds contract at the very same press conference they were supposed to be repenting for their poor behaviour ?

It is also an issue of player welfare which they need to be seen to uphold as the players are their main product.

If we took on a player with a clause in his contract, stating that if he received an ASADA sanction he goes down to a rookie wage, there is little risk here. The player has a 45k safety net he wouldn't have had if he was simply banned. The club isn't left paying out a big contract.

But I wonder — if players are banned by ASADA, does the club even have to pay them? I mean, are we even allowed to pay them? Are they banned from competing or banned from being on the list/employed at all?

With Evans at the helm, absolutely.

With Little at the helm after they pubically accused Vlad of all sorts of misdeeds, not so sure. It seems an AFLPA led initiative, and by having players leave Essendon and them being replaced by top up players who will be unaffected by ASADA sanctions allows Essendon to keep playing in the event the final ASADA report recommends bans for players.

But they can both play at either.

I reckon he knew what was in those needles and made up the story he is afraid.

Yep - I rate Carlisle's kicking for goal a bit more than Roughy's.
It might be a lure factor - playing more as a forward than he does at the Bombers.

And one might assume if the AFLPA is asking for this, at least one member/player has probably requested them to make the request. Who knows if there is more than one?

Crameri or Vez (already gone). Increased wage.
Higgins/Williams or a good player. Similar wage.

If we have players not guaranteed of long term best 22, maybe the risk is worth it. Not necessarily advocating it, but makes for a interesting discussion if they want to rejoin Macca at no cost other than taking a fringe players spot with a similar wage...
Prefer to keep developing Pearce just quietly, Jetta is a complete dud, ok he's quick, but so was Jordy McMahon, just don't see what others do with Leroy apart from having a cool name.
