Big difference in that Grant is on our playing list, therefore McCartney had no option but to work him and try to get the best out of him. The players that McCartney brings in to the club are those whom he believes would meet his mantra, or those with exceptional talent. From what we have seen thus far Everitt neither has the work ethic nor the talent.

I like the idea of going after Docherty.

I doubt our 2nd round pick would get the deal done but could try. I would rather we use this pick on a young gun like him than say Crameri.

If we had to up the anti I wouldn't be opposed to swapping 1st round picks. Our pick 4 and their pick 7 thats if we cant convince them to take Howard first!

Can't see him taking on a coaching role under any circumstances.

                    Really don't know.

He has the obvious connection with Macca and we really need an experienced assistant.

however he would be on a fortune at Essendon and I doubt we could or would match the $$$ he would command.

If we are keen on adding or replacing any assistant coaches I think we will go down the usual path of signing an untried.

If North offer $550,000 a year for Betts (why?), I hope we run away from that negotiation as quick as we can.

He said last night on 360 that there is no guarantee that he will be at Essendon next year, but he would like to continue there ... it is up to Essendon Management. When asked if would coach again, he said it would be highly unlikely.

Might be a case of him just wanting to clean up his reputation and who better to do that with than Macca.
One issue for me is the Essendon scandal will tarnish ( rightly so ) these blokes no matter where they go, not sure our club needs to be dragged into it.
It's better to die on our feet than live on our knees.

Where is Thompson mentally and emotionally are the big questions from me.

He was both mentally and emotionally shot when he left Geelong and he appears to be in a tough spot.

Not sure if he could actually add value in his current state.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Yep. With Dahl & Hunter & Dickson in the side as well as cameos from Gia as his body allows, I really think $550k pa (which is almost double the average AFL salary) on a small forward would be a bad idea. It doesn't really address an area of need in 2014

Even if tall forwards are going at $500k pa (ie Dawes) it seems like overs. $450k for Crameri I'm far more comfortable with.
