Re: Recruiting Speculation File 2013
Anyone think we should try to upgrade 46 and hit up GWS for their 4th pick (22) that they don't even really need to use? Not sure what else we would give them but I think we could get it for unders given their list-building circumstances (i.e.: it's not a first round pick so they would be loathe to play anyone they pick with it)- I'm a visionary - Only here to confirm my biases -Comment

Re: Recruiting Speculation File 2013
I tend to agree with your last paragraph. In terms of tangibles - absolutely yes, both are the best midfielder in their respective drafts.
In terms of intangibles it's a harder call - both have stayed at the Bulldogs for less money than they could have gained elsewhere (puts the "go home factor" myth the bed when you compare them to Ward) but Liberatore as a FS pick and famous name at the club adds more to the group than his ability suggests.
He's also elite in what he does - there is this curious Woof-led habit of focussing mostly on a player's weaknesses, but his strengths are elite and elute attributes are almost impossible to teach. You can guide, enhance - but you can't instill them.
We are going to be largely a "draft & develop" type club, and trading under the B-Mac reign is almost entirely focussed on value rather than star factor. I'd expect that methodology to continue.
With respect to the intangibles you mention, and Liberatore adding more to the group due to who his father is I can't really comment. I'm not close enough to the group, though I think like any organisation there would probably be some people operating within it who highly value and emphasise that, and those who don't.
It would be really interesting to see how things panned out if we were given a ridiculously generous offer for him, or any of our elite players.
Agree that he is elite in what he does, and that shouldn't be undervalued. It wasn't my intention to give the impression of just focussing on his weaknesses.TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.Comment

The weakness focus comment wasn't really in response to your post, more main board commentary.I tend to agree with your last paragraph.

I think we should draft & develop based on our past trading history - pre-Macca it was absolutely woeful (did we get even one right during the Rhode/Clayton era?). I'm calling Hudson a win, and a few fringe trades turned out ok but overall it hasn't been a happy hunting ground for us. The exception I would make is FA - if we're front loading contracts to meet cap requirements, surely in a year or two when we're looking at finals again we have to consider opening the chequebook for an established gun that has 3-4 years left.Western Bulldogs: 2016 PremiersComment

Anyone willing to entertain a trade where we give up Libba, should be banned from ever criticising Callan Ward for leaving our club.I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.Comment

I second this motion.
I'm a bit out of the loop but is there any truth to the rumor that we are interested in getting Cheaney from Hawthorn.Comment

Cheney is the red-haired bloke who missed from the goal square against us in Tassie. No good at Melbourne, no good at Hawthorn, no good at all.Western Bulldogs: We exist to win premiershipsComment
