Re: Recommendations of All Things Netflix

Has anyone watched Ozark? Takes a bit to get into it initially but I've really enjoyed it. There is talked that there will be a 3rd season.

I've got about 4 shows to go to finish the 2nd season and I've enjoyed it.

There are a lot of people at work talking about it now compared to when it first came out it was hard to find anyone that had seen it.

          I'm about the same.

I really think Jason Bateman has struggled trying to play the straight man historically, but he's nailing it in Ozark.

I hadn't really heard much positive buzz around Ozark before today. Can anyone sell me on it?

It's a crime drama where a financial planner who works for a small company with some dodgy tendencies eventually decides to be the accountant for a Mexican cartel. It's very evident early on that he is in over his head and for every problem he solves for them more problems are created. The cartel is very demanding to say the least and violent when things aren't to their liking.
To save himself and his family he offers to relocate the family to the Ozarks so that he can launder (clean) the cartels money given it's an extremely high level of cash transactions.

It took me about 3 shows before I started to enjoy it. It's a show you have to pay attention to otherwise the pieces might not all fit together for you. If you like crime series mixed with hillbillies, small time crims, bent police and also the mafia you should enjoy it.
The hillbillies redneck theme adds a lot to the storyline.

Someone at work thinks it's pitched more for people over the age of 30 as it's not as exciting as many younger people might enjoy.

First season of Ozark was a slow burn but I enjoyed it. Weirdly, it introduced me to a song I listen to pretty much daily now (Still The Same by Bob Seger).

Haven’t got to season 2 yet but it’s on the list.

                  Well summarised GVGjr.

Highly recommend Ozark - The most intriguing character for me is Ruth played by Julia Garner.

She's a tough youngster, wise beyond her years but she bluffs her way through with her aggro approach.

She was also had a role in the Americans

I started watching season 1 of Ozark recently, I'm at the 3 episode hump however will push through based on the recommendations in here.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Definitely worth sticking with Ozark - I often think 4 episodes is about where you can start making some kind of decision on a show, but Ozark is a little slower than a few others out there. After having watched both season 1 and 2, it is fantastic.

Throwing another recommendation in the ring - has anyone watched The Expanse? Its a sci-fi series based on a series of novels and is really high quality. I'm not normally a sci fi tv show person but this show is really worth your while. Same 4 episode rule applies, but I would say that The Expanse has actually gotten increasingly better with each season, contrary to the pattern many other series follow.

It has had an interesting history to - was cancelled by Sci Fi and after an extensive fan campaign to #SaveTheExpanse, Jeff Bezos and the team at Amazon have picked it back up and are making the next couple of seasons.

Yeah the Expanse is good - it's very political and that side of it can be tricky to follow - but it's intertwines backstory in with the plot and it's an interesting show.

I've said it before, but if you want to watch a good Netflix show watch Suburra. IMO it's the best show I've seen on Netflix.

Can’t say I’ve watched much Netflix but have managed to watch a Netflix series called Dark. It’s kind of in the Stanger Things genre but deeper and darker, without the razzle dazzle. It’s in German but seems to add to the shows depth. I loved it and can’t wait to see where season 2 goes next year.

Did he play Beria in Death of Stalin? Sensational role and brilliantly played.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

Dark is my favourite show that has come out of Netflix and I too cant wait for season 2.

Such a headspinner, so much to sink your teeth into and is the sort of show where if you re-watch you pickup a stack of things you dint the first time.
