Mofra rated a Kensignton fish and chip shop earlier in this thread. I am a five min drive, I will have to check em out.
More of an In Bruges guy?

Didn't see Mofra's earlier post nor did I realise they were regarded by Lonely Planet. Does sounds a great idea for a Friday night prelim. final dinner. As I mentioned, their 'Special Flake' dish was their killer diller dish some years back.

Hook Line and Sinker Fish and Chips 91 Kingsway, Glen Waverley as I mentioned before serve it well in these packs called "old school packs". An old school pack = chips, a piece of fish, potato cake and dim sim with a lemmon included. They remained open over the holiday period as my other local fish and chips Captain's Choice are on a break. At Hook, line and sinker you can eat in like at a restaurant as I've done once.

Definitely fish eyes for me!! When ever I'm working in the area I will be having fish n chips at fish eyes for smoko. Most polite bloke I've ever met too.

Don't intent to be or even sound racist, but Greeks make the best fish and chips. Don't know why though???

Your not bulldogtragic. Im Australian but my ancestors came from Macedonia (Greece) and when a lot of Greeks migrated to Australia in the 1950s they started the fish and chip shop businesses and have just perfected it. Certainly countries just do certain foods the best.

                  Don't agree at all.

What the early Fish and Chip shops did was make their own batters, cut their own chips etc. These days there is a distribution company that just mass produces chips, fish pre battered, potato cakes already to just fry etc.

The good ones do their own. The Asians just get the ones from the distributors, because they want it like a franchise store, ie the system all their and they just follow the rules.

Re: Best Fish and Chips in Melbourne

I know this is a Melbourne thread but just for people living in Brisbane, since living up here have really struggled to find a decent fish & chip shop, even people from Melbourne who live up here I've spoken to, say Brisbane just do not do fish & chips like Melbournians, and have never experienced a fake potato cake until being up here, absolute garbage.

But struck gold in Wynnum on the corner if you walk straight up from the wading pool, the piece if Flake was to die for and home made or dare I say [normal in Melbourne] potato cakes really good.

If you intend on going for a walk/jog/run later on also go for the milk shake, amazing, with chunks of ice cream.

Best in Melbourne, Top Of The Bay in Willy, or for the REALLY hungry person, one on Gap road across from ALDI, dare you to order the super flake.

If you're coming down Sydney Road from the Hume stop at Fish on Sydney, Coburg. They are a joint fresh fish shop / fish and chip shop. Super fresh and good batters.
But then again, I'm an Internet poster and Bevo is a premiership coach so draw your own conclusions.

Any suggestions of good fish and chips in the Balwyn area. Will be moving there soon.
