Anyone no any decent F&C places in the outer east Bayswater/Boronia area?

So far I haven't found anything that has blown my mind.

BTW in regards to fish, if you ever see Butterfish on the menu, be very very careful.
I've had it twice before an on both occasions it was a very unpleasant experience!

Mentioning it because I saw it at a local shop the other day and couldn't believe there were actually selling it.
Why risk putting your customers through such an awful experience.

Why would you have it a second time?

It's quite common to get sick after eating butterfish from what I've read. I don't know why a shop would sell it.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

This one used to be my local. If you want to drive a little more Captain's Choice in Brentford Square in Vermont is goer. Even though I no longer live in the area I occasionally buy from there but since moving haven't been able in my local area find anything that special.

I spent a lot of my childhood holidays in Adelaide during the 60's. The F & C shops over there then always had butterfish and no flake. Not sure if it still the same. Perhaps a SA woofer can enlighten me?

My then girlfriend now wife bought it at the market and forgot what fish it was she bought.

Needless to say the bathroom was in high demand after that.

I might be wrong, but I assumed butterfish in SA was flake. (Although worth ensuring you aren't getting hake)

I've been pretty spoiled growing up in that I've spent a lot of time fishing, and therefore eating very nice, fresh fish and am generally reluctant to get things from a fish and chip shop.

Fresh, beer battered flathead is always hard to beat - but so is whiting, tuna, snapper, nannygai etc - although the best has to be fresh cray and ab, luckily I've got a few mates who dive and are happy to share.
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Agree with flatty, I was eyeing some today with the view of a beer batter, just needed tonight to work out some flavours/sauces/spices to go with it. But I can't go past Moreton Bay Bugs, probably my last meal if I was on death row.

With flathead fillets, I mix through flour some cumin, coriander and paprika, roll the flat head through and lightly fry in olive oil.

Thanks for your reply Griff. Just did a bit of research and found out that butterfish was the common name in SA for Mulloway back in the 60s ...

Tried this fish and chip place out tonight (North Balwyn Fish and Chips). Thought it was quite good. His a link to some reviews of it.

Really starting to like this place after going a few times now. A bit more old school which I like
