It's not a TV show but tonight I went to an interesting play focused on the relationship between a closeted AFL player and their boyfriend. It was a good exploration of the emotions and angles at play behind the scenes, and really got me thinking about what is holding back the likely handful of queer players from coming out. I don't know if there are any other shows in Melbourne planned but looks like there are a few rurally. The play was called Become the One.

It's strange(and sad) that you could name dozens of gay female athletes but struggle to name a couple of male ones.

Josh Cavallo came out and was supported across the globe wasn’t he. (A league Adelaide United).
Unfortunately he has copped some abuse from fans but on the whole they’ve been really isolated events (complete morons) and for the majority from what I can tell it’s absolutely a normal thing to expect in a liberal society such as ours and we all just treat him as any other player (he’s probably got them covered for bravery !).
It’s sad that the sports deemed to be associated with a higher level of toxic masculinity (afl, nrl) have yet to create an environment safe enough for players to be open with their sexuality.
I think it’s a matter of time, but we aren’t there yet.
Well, if the Dogs season goes completely tits up, recently released or coming in the next month are:
Atlanta - season 3
Pachinko
Barry - Season 3
Slow Horses
Russian Doll - Season 2
We Own The City (David Simon Produced show set in Baltimore)
Moon Knight
Roar (insane looking anthology series from the makers of Glow)
and that's just the stuff that appeals to me...
Park that car
Drop that phone
Sleep on the floor
Dream about me

I’m actually reading the book right now which is fortuitous. Slow Horses looks excellent and Severance is well worth it. Apple started slow, but they’re definitely having a moment.
