If Lehmann was involved he's out the door too.

He's too busy filing complaints about some pissed Saffers in the crowd giving poor Davey Warner a bit of lip.

I love how Boof thinks he's an authority on moral standards when he once called the entire Sri Lankan team "c*nts, c*nts, bunch of black c*nts" because they had the audacity to dismiss him in a meaningless one-day match. He's the main problem - time to throw him out and bring Justin Langer in pronto.

Not about bringing the game Into disripute it's about bringing the country into disripute, they play and represent as an AUstralian team, there comes responsibility in that far bigger than employee, ( you would be sacked for that )
Does this team represent Australia as being a cheating lying and sneaky country ?
In my opinion they should be sacked.

It's a very poor effort on his behalf.
My read on this is:
Smith and the leadership group hatched a very poor plan and dragged Bancroft into it. More fool Bancroft for agreeing to it.
Once caught Smith has come clean but has deliberately been light on the details and in the process seems to have dropped Bancroft into it.


I don't think fines are sufficient for the actions. We also need to know how many are involved.

I am not sure there should be anyway that Smith and Warner (if not Lehmann also)can keep their leadership positions.

Simon Katich has declared that "CA have no option". Smith, Warner and Lehmann all have to be sacked ".

Smith 3 years. Rest of leadership group 1 year. Bancroft 6 months. Lehmann and Saker sacked and never to return. Langer appointed coach effective immediately. Match forfeited and rest of series cancelled, and Cricket Australia to repay Saffer equivalent for lost revenue.

That would be a good starting point for James Sutherland.

I think the difference is what Faf did was done by himself. Smith and the leadership group have roped Bancroft into it and initially tried to hide it from the umpires when questioned.

We should forfeit the test and the players concerned stood down. Lets see if CA can do the right thing

Yep, agreed. There is no frogmarching back from this.

I've lomg been looking forward to seeing the back of Steve Smith as captain but I didn't want it to come to this.

Most sports people will cheat in one way or another if they think they can get away with it. Take a look at AFL players who constantly cheat on the ground - eg holding jumpers or taking out players behind the play. Soccer players taking a dive, also holding jumpers, Cyclists, and other athletes with performance hancing drugs.

Ball tampering is just another in the long line of bad sportsmanship and cheating

In context, this is worse than Salman Butt/Amir spot fixing IMO. Those blokes weren't paid by PCB for 6 months prior and desperation causes desperate decisions. Our blokes are pampered multi millionaires whose only excuse was they were getting beaten by a better team on the day.

Underarm is nowhere near as bad as this you can't compare them , the underarm was not against the rules and was not cheating, it was against the spirit of the game though but not blatant cheating and it was decided by a captain who took the blunt of his decision. This ball tampering is out and cheating by a majority of the team who agreed with it.
I also find it the lowest in captaincy in not doing the cheating himself and getting a young player to do it, also blaming others when he is had has the final call.
No smith it's all falls back to you and you only.
Take responsibility and don't try and defend it by saying the whole leadership group backed it.
Personally if I was one of the leadership group I wouldn't have anything to do with him again if he throws people under the bus like that.

Still floored by this. Agree with what almost everyone here has said. Smith, Warner and Bancroft with lengthy suspensions (and whoever else is part of leadership team).
Smith stood down as captain.
Lehmann fired as coach
