    Backing the team wouldn't take long to bounce back,huge amoun of talent in Australia that didn't get picked due to smith and Lehmann mates club getting games before them.
    Maybe we could start picking six batsmen and not "five and a good bloke" like we have for a few years now.
    They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

      Latest .. Lehmann cleared and it was all hatched by just 3 players in Smith , Warner and Bancroft.
      So apart from cheating Smith has also lied multiple times.
      Warner seems to have been outed by the team who wish to have nothing to do with him.
      That's Warners career over I would have thought in the baggy green.
      Weet bix have removed all adds containing Smith.
      Still a lot more to come.
      Bring back the biff

        We need to develop some common sense about this. Cricket Australia seem to think it's a binary matter. Their first reaction was underwhelming but now they think they have to whack heads off and hand out year bans.

        I just want some perspective. The rest of the world don't get to drive this and we have to stop reacting to others.

        This is too far.

          I actually feel sorry for Smith, he looks like a pretty good bloke. I don't think he is a strong person and should never have been captain. In my mind the whole ball tampering no doubt was concocted by Lehman and Warner and Smith went along with it. Bancroft is another that just bowed to pressure.

            Smith comes across like a spoiled brat and a bit of a smart arse to me. If my daughter bought him home I'd be waiting for an excuse to show him the front door. I've never liked him but that's no reason to railroad the guy.

              Re: 2018 Tour of South Africa

              So 3 top order batsmen concoted a scheme on their own to help the BOWLERS, and none of them had a clue about it, despite having a scuffed up ball in their hand every ball straight after lunch. Nor did the coach, who must have been ordering pizza while on the walkie talkie. And the bowling coach had no clue either. And all of this having taken place in a small changeroom full of 20 odd people, but only 3 batsmen knew about it.

              Lol at Cricket Australia and their definition of "thorough investigation" and "full transparency"

                  How is Lehmann still coach ? How is Sutherland still there ?
                  Warner’s the attack dog , but cries foul when it gets returned !dint think . Jonathon Agnew was intimidating that something pretty rank was said to Bairstow during the ashes . We’ve acted like schoolyard bullies for to long , and now they’re waiting with baseball bats .
                  Don’t think Warner will play for the country again

                      It's worse than that - James Sutherland is pissing on our backs and telling us it is raining.

                      Funny how the media narrative on Smith completely changed 24 hours ago to a much softer and more sympathetic tone - he is far and away our best batsman and under 30yo so we desperately need him back. Ditto we desperately need all of our pacemen because Jackson Bird is next in line and the cupboard is bare. By contrast Warner is the wrong side of 30yo and is expendible/replacable - add to that he is a giant douche and it is so easy to paint him as the mastermind of this.

                      What CA are doing is so obvious - they aren't fooling anyone. They don't give a shit about spirit of cricket or culture. The $ is their paymaster and they will do whatever it takes to make Austalia competitive again ASAP. Fast bowlers and coaches not knowing about this - lol

                      Pissweak. Pathetic.

                        Must have just figured the Umps were scratching up the ball again. Nothing odd about that

                          The umpires didn't replace the ball, which is standard procedure if they think the ball's been tampered with. Obviously there was no notable change to it.

                            It depends on what your benchmark is. South Africa's standard approach to dealing with ball tampering charges against their players (yes, it happens that often they have a standard approach), is to deny guilt, challenge any guilty verdict, then refuse to discuss the specifics other than to say they are outraged they've been charged (when they really mean caught). After a week it goes away until they're caught again. Their press also lines up behind them and starts attacking the team they're playing as a diversion. They even had the national broadcaster threaten to refuse to allow an international broadcaster into the country again if they showed footage of the SA ball tampering.

                            Contrast this with the Australian approach of admitting guilt, naming players, threatening stiff penalties, and openly embracing the press condemnation. I would say CA's been far more open and honest than any of the likes of South Africa, England, Pakistan, or India who get caught regularly. The only difference in the situations is those countries don't have a press that lives to pour scorn on their team, and a big national population that sees their own self-loathing manifest in the national cricket team.

                              Re: 2018 Tour of South Africa

                              Is what they did really that bad? Did they get drunk punch some random guy? Did they nick a ball and not walk? Did they sell game information to Indian gambling companies? Have they been bowling with a bent arm? did they smear mints on a ball?

                              In the scheme of things from a cricket perspective yes ball tampering is wrong. Planning to ball tamper is at the upper end of the scale of wrongness and covering up with lies is also wrong. To go on and say its un=-Australian and to completely hang these guys out to dry is a witch hunt of the highest proportions.

                              1) being sent home from the tour is the right thing to do;
                              2) relieving Smith of the the captaincy is the right thing to do;
                              3) giving them some ban is also the righ thing to do.

                              Saying that they should never play for Australia again.....come on, that's OTT and farcical. People do the wrong thing, we punish and move on. As I started with in the grand scheme of things this is pretty minor.

                                Their biggest crime is they're Australian. Plenty worse has been done with none of the fall out. In fact most people wouldn't even know about previous ball tampering events from other teams, they don't even follow the sport unless there's bad news to celebrate.

                                The international media don't like them, and their home country doesn't support them. The same people who revel in bagging the Australian cricket team are the same people who love attacking Australia Day. We have a pretty sick national culture currently.
