I was mortified. Not quite as mortified as I might have been had I not seen it a dozen times from teams we play against, but my outrage has waned somewhat given I apply it equally to all teams in the competition rather than a laser focus on my own team. Hence my outrage has been spread extremely thin over the years.

Do you honestly think we're setting the standard and other teams will catch up? Honestly? No seriously honestly?

We suspended the best player in the world for a year for not wanting to get involved in ball tampering while playing against a team that had 4 players on the field who've been convicted for that very crime, including the captain who's been convicted twice and missed a total of 1 Test match. If you can't or don't want acknowledge the absurdity of the situation I can't help you.
Well it was petulant because you reverted to a scenario that is completely unrealistic for effect, unnecessarily.

My point is it doesn't really matter whether other countries catch up to our level completely, if they get some of the way then that's great. All I care about is my team not cheating and not being dickheads. It's a bit like being a member at a golf club, if you spent your time worrying about how each and every member conducted themselves versus how you are, you'd go insane, and you'd lose the bigger picture view of the game being more important than what you want to get out of it in the short term - at the time. The beautiful thing about games like golf and cricket is that no matter the result, over time cheating pricks are remembered for who and what they are, irrespective of the boorish cheering from media acolytes and within the galleries over the short to medium term. It's history that is important.

We didn't suspend the best player in the world for not wanting to get involved in ball tampering. We suspended the best player in the world because he blatantly let it happen to get the team out of a really sour pickle, ergo, he cheated and we didn't like it.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

So Sachin Tendulkar, Faf Du Plesis, Waqar Younis, and Rahul Dravid will all be remembered as just cheating pricks? All 4 having been seperately convicted of ball tampering? Yeah right!

I bet you didn't even know Dravid was caught on tape rubbing a Strepsil on the ball during a match, Tendulkar was captain and did nothing to stop him. Neither served a suspension and ironically are treated as legends in Australia!

To me Tendulkar is the epitome of an indulged wanker and I think he is an overrated bat as well, and I know all about his discipline issues on the field over time (descent included over and above tampering).

I did know about Dravid too, just as well as I knew about all of the others.

How do you remember these guys? Champions who won fairly?

However, how many of the instances sited over time involved something as glaringly over the top as bringing sandpaper onto the ground to purposely rough up a side of the ball?

        None, if any I assume.

I remember them as some of the greats to have played the game, which is what 99% of cricket fans remember them as well. There's about 1.1 billion people plus about 1000 in the Australian media who also consider them as players of the highest integrity too, I don't of course, but to channel Robert Craddock when not talking about an Australian everyone does it, so why bother singling individuals out. I also remember them as players that never missed an entire year in the middle of their careers.

I wonder how they'd be remembered if they were Australian- Cheating scum who's performances should be expunged from the record books? Life banned maybe?

Stache, everyone since WG Grace has tampered with the ball to a degree. Nobody has ever brought sandpaper onto the ground. I agree 100% with your point about sanctimonious elements of the media pathetically getting their kicks by ripping right into the Aussies, but the nature of the action is akin to doing 200kms in a 100km zone as opposed to 105kms in a 100km zone like the other offences (mints/lollies, zippers on clothing, etc..). And I find it laughable that CA is trying to frame a narrative that the top 3 in the batting order somehow conjured up this as a one-off scheme (to directly benefit the bowlers no less), and the coach/bowlers/senior management were blissfully unaware.

I also think Bancroft and Smith have been dreadfully advised this last couple of weeks, and have achieved the remarkable feat of making Warner look restrained and mature. I can't stand him but I actually feel very sorry for Warner, who is being very obviously painted as the Stephen Dank of this saga from both within (CA and the players) and externally by the media. This is horseshit that everyone involved with cricket in this country is trying to shove down our throats.

I don't see any difference between sandpaper, petroleum jelly, mints or a zipper (that want attached to a pair of pants). It's still bringing a foreign object out onto the ground and interfering with the ball.

I hate having to defend players like Smith and Warner whom I have never had any time for but I hate hypocrisy even more.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

"Whether we broke the laws depends on how you interpret them," he said.

"We found that mints and sun cream had an effect on the saliva, and that helped the ball to reverse.

"I might also have 'accidentally' caught the ball on the zip of my trouser pocket to rough it up a little."

Is Monty a cheat? Should we go back and check the footage from the games he talks about and ban everyone we can see that we think is cheating? Who gets to check and make the recommendations? The English Cricket Board or me and Greystache?
