Re: World Cup Squad - 2019

It looks like a disappointing score but we will need to wait and see how the poms do. It's a concern that they won the toss and put us in unless they misread the pitch and conditions at the start. I didn't see the pitch before play started so I can't comment with any authority.

Maybe we batted out of our skins for the fist 30 overs, maybe we batted shithouse for the last 20.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

5 Wickets to Behrendorff and England are in trouble to make finals.

I see Finch got man of the match, but really this game was won by the bowlers, Behrendorff or Starc should have the man of the match.

They consistently give this to batsman without consideration of what really decides the game.

Starc should have got MoTM for that yorker alone. Squashed England’s chances with one of the best balls ever bowled in a WC.

Fantastic to see that great *!*!*!*!ing leader of men Eoin Morgan show his true colours (He is nothing but a bully and his sniveling is not impressive) backing away as Starc was still in his run up, couldn't even wait until his delivery stride. What a coward, that's not going to win you any World Cups Mr Morgan.

                      You great ninny!

Re: World Cup Squad - 2019

I was at the game yesterday and it was great! Nothing better than beating England, surrounded by English people. They were pretty cocky at the end of the Australian innings, but that lasted about 2 balls. Looking back, Australia adjusted the the conditions quicker and much better than the English. I really think that with the rain we'd had overnight and the lack of sun generally, the English were expecting a Trent Bridge/Edgebaston wicket which would seam around and cause the Aussies problems. To some extent it did, but the Aussies put away the big strokes and batted sensibly, compiling a total rather than belting one. The result was we ran the singles kept the score ticking over at 4.5 to 5.5 runs an over to reach 285 at the end of 50. Personally I thought we were 20 to 30 too short and that we had wasted the opportunity. Khawaja and Maxwell in particular I felt threw their wickets away needlessly. On Maxwell, for Australia to win the World Cup I believe that he has to play a 30 ball innings and not an 8 ball innings. He plays a 30 ball innings and Australia is 60 to 70 runs better off.

With the total on the board it was down to England to chase it. At the break I said to the people we were with key to the game was getting Root early and to a lesser extent Vince, as both these guys were the type to play long innings if they got set. Queue up Behrendorf and Starc who dismissed both before desert had been served in the Corporate area. With the 2 guys capable of curbing their aggressive instincts back in the pavilion, both dismissed to some beautiful bowling, it was a procession of outfield catches that removed the rest of the Englsh aggressive batting threat - Morgan, Baristow, Buttler and Woakes - all succumbed to the need to hit boundaries when what was required was patience and guile. Worth mentioning the innings that Stokes played. A lovely knock that had he had 1 or 2 others wiling to follow his lead the result would have been much tighter. AS it was it took an absolute beauty from Starc to knock him and England over.

Final mention has to go to Morgan. An Irish guy, playing for a country that in't his own, deigns to pass judgement on Smith and Warner and produced a terrible shot that compounds his country's position. He is a flat track bully that can boss weaker attacks but is currently struggling when the chips are down. Have a look at he replay and let me know if you think that his dismissal is the shot a captain should be playing after 5 overs when his team are 2 down for less than 30......

Thanks Freddi, lucky you to be there.

I think Smith should play higher up the order and Maxi should drop down. Some are saying Ussi should be dropped and Smith to 3 but personally, I would stay with Ussi at 3 and perhaps Smith 4.

                          What are your thoughts?

I see the Pakis have beaten New Zealand which keeps them alive for the semis.

The man of the match again routinely awarded to the high scoring batsman, but I contend that the effort of Shaheen with 3 early wickets and overall 3 for 28 from 10 overs had more influence on the result, than Babar's century.

Bowlers can't do much more than take wickets and restrict runs and are just not given the credit in MoM awards.

Fellow "Englishman" Kevin Peterson wasn't impressed:
Oh no, Eoin Morgan looked scared!

                              That Is A Horror Sign!
The England captain stepping to square leg when Starc bowled his first delivery to him made me think England could have a little problem over the next week or so.
I hope not, but I’ve not seen a captain show such a weakness for a while...

I'm confused BAD. You want Smith higher up the order than number 4 where he currently bats, then say you would leave him at 4???

Maxi comes in at 5, why would he drop behind Stoinis who doesn't look like making runs?

The batting positions are fluid depending on the state of the game and I think that's a smart move. Maxi has been coming in at suitable times, he just hasn't quite been able to put it together (apart from against Bangladesh when he was run out by Usi when he was flying). I didn't think his shot against England was terrible, just messed up the execution.
