    I looked it up and yes, we finished higher in the group.

    I agree with AM. It would have been a better way to decide the results, but fours, is just a joke. It was the final for gods sake.

      Re: World Cup Squad - 2019

      I though the final was epic. It had everything you want in a game of cricket and proves to some degree that big hitting alone is not enough to make the game interesting. I manged to watch just about all of it and the ending was about as cruel as you can get in sport.

      1) Boult catches Stokes and steps on the boundary rope;
      2) Guptil's throw trying to save 2, results in 4 overthrow's which brings the requirement down from 7 off 2 to 3 off 2;
      3) NZ effect 2 run outs in the last over to tie the game;
      4) The Super Over's - Neesham's 6 swung it NZ's way.
      5) Joffa Archer's wide gift NZ a run and an extra ball.

      The game was tied after 50 overs and tied after the Super Over. Why not award the World Cup jointly? Why not have joint winners? Something as arbitrary as number of boundaries could easily have been number of wickets taken after 50 overs?

      Well done England, they were by far the best one day team over the last 2 years.

I reckon we are just as bad in football and tennis - I remember in the 1985 world cup qualifiers (for the 1986 world cup) against Scotland we brought over Zarko Odzakov from Europe and fast-tracked his Australian citizenship in world record time. We've done it a lot in tennis too, especially with the women.
        I was there that night at Olympic Park. It was the most exciting nil all draw you could imagine but the thing that is seared into my mind is the simple shot that Odzakov missed. He was at one end of the goalface about a metre out with the ball at his feet and the goalkeeper is at the end and he missed! a mate of mine said "it would have been harder to miss that than to score it. How the hell did that happen?"
        They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

          On SEN this morning Gerard Whateley said "It's the World Cup, what's the hurry? where else do you have to be?" and then he bought up the example of the Grand Final golden points. Did you know that after the proscribed extra time expires that there is no siren or anything? It just ticks over to Golden Point so a ruckman could force the ball through at a ball up or a boundary throw in thinking his side will get possession but he has just handed the premiership over. What's the rush? Just keep playing extra time periods until one side is in front
