    Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup

I haven't slept and am in the hurt house at the moment.

Wasn't going to miss this morning for the world though. We were always a chance, I thought, given the form lines and stylistic match up that Denmark presented. I was expecting a more robust, physical and team than what they gave us, and was actually surprised at just how good the touch on the wide players showed. In the first 20 minutes, we looked outclassed, in the same way France just controlled possession and worked the ball wherever they needed it.

But they never cashed in, and we settled into the game. Was amazing to see it unfold and see each defensive effort load up our confidence up the other end of the pitch. McGree was fantastic at keeping them honest with his work and it was a sublime ball to Leckie for the goal.

The most pleasing thing about our goals has been that they've not just been Cahill screamers and set piece Hail Marys. Open play, winning battles, hitting it well. Less mercurial. It is an important development.

Souttar again was immense. Rowles stood up with him too.

Few blokes getting lethargic. We might need to try Devlin in the midfield if Mooy can't spark up a bit.

Thank goodness we didn't draw as the farcical VAR ending to the France v Tunisa game would have been ultra cruel.

Nothing to lose from here, have already surpassed everybody's expectations. Bring on Messi and the Argies.
Id love us to keep up this scoring momentum we have. Very unlikely to get a win or even a draw but could we put one into the back of the net

        Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup

My top Socceroos wins/performances (that's there for Croatia game) since 1990 (or whenever I actually remember games)

        1- 2-0 v Denmark WC 2022
        2- Pens Win v Uruguay WCQ 2005
        3- 3-1 v Japan WC 2006
        4- 1-0 v Tunisia WC 2002
        5- Pens Win v Peru WCQ 2022
6- 2-2 v Croatia WC 2006 (basically a win and would of been if Poll didn't blow whistle whilst Aloisi was through on goal)
        7- 2-1 v South Korea Asian Cup Final 2015
8- 3-1 v England Friendly 2003 (I know just a friendly but thought it meant a lot symbolically)
9- 2-1 v Serbia WC 2010 (rough to be this low but ended up being a bit meaningless)
10- a tie for 2001 Confederations Cup wins v France and Brazil which mean a lot more pre making WC on repeat days

Leckie. Leckie. Leckie. Leckie. Leckie. The boy from the western suburbs of Melbourne delivers a goal for the ages to send us through. It has been a long day after the 1:45am start and no chance of going back to bed after the adrenalin run of that game and the overall result of us qualifying.

On cloud nine. What a result!

              Good list.

For me I have the madness in Kaiserslautern as number #1. We looked dead and buried in that game and Tim Cahill turned that game on its head. Our first ever World Cup win and goals. Amazing scenes. Still gives me goose bumps.

Number two for me was the win against Uruguay in 2005. Probably a little biased as I was in the stadium and was feeling the agony of so many close misses to qualify for the World Cup. But to see the Golden Generation get the job done in front of a packed stadium and capture the imagination of the Australian Public was truly unbelievable.

Also, you are missing the World Cup win in 2010 from your list (our last World Cup win prior to this year's World Cup). I was at the stadium so again biased. But we had a towering Tim Cahill header and great goal from Brett Holman to secure a win over a Serbian side which had beat Germany in the previous game.

The 2010 campaign had a win, a loss and a draw. Exactly the same result as our 2006 heralded campaign, but the large first game loss to Germany really cost us (4-0).

Spine tingling stuff. Is there anything better in the world of sport than watching a close knit team that plays with heart? Get over Argentina Sunday morning and i will consider going to church afterwards.

Big win. Given the lack of "world class" players in the squad to get out o that group and win 2 games is a pretty good result. Argies will be a different proposition, but they will give us a chance or 2.

Japan playing into Spain's hands by just letting them have the ball and pass it around until they spot an opening.
