    Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup

    Spot on analysis. Forensic.
Japan's last 10 minutes of the first half was scintillating and they are going on with it. Exciting team.

Sad way to end for Japan. But the look on the face of Japan's first penalty taker was an omen. I said to myself: "He looks nervous."

Seriously. How poor were those pen attempts from the Japanese. They missed three of their first four attempts. All got saved from the keeper in the same way. Meek shots that were hit low and gave the keeper every chance. So disappointing.

          Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup

So after all the excitement about the world game progressing and the depth and competitiveness improving, we now have six quarter finalists.

          Argentina
          Brazil
          England
          France
          Croatia
          Netherlands

Only Europe and South America represented. It is going to be all European and South American teams in the last 8 unless Morocco find a way to upset Spain.

          Some things do not change.

Europe has won five of the last six World Cups. I'm cheering for the South Americans for at least some change to the status quo.

That's going to sting them for a while.

Unreal that Morocco stun Spain to advance on penalties. Their defence was so strong.

              How good is Morocco?

Great to see Morocco make the 1/4 finals.

Also great to see Portugal doing well without that petulant flog Ronaldo. They are far better off without him.

They have conceded one goal in their last seven starts. One goal in four World Cup matches. They are a threat. But gee whiz, Portgual look strong. They bring on a sub of the quality of Rafael Leão and the AC Milan talisman smashes in an outrageous goal.

100%. At the end the Portgual team is celebrating with their fans. Ronaldo marches off the pitch ... on his own. Flog.

Spain were just as bad today. Terrible pens.

Spain will not be missed. They play the most awful, boring game plan - what is the point of passing the ball around 1,000 times a game and have 70% possession when you barely get into dangerous shooting positions.

                        Good riddance.

What a hatrick from his replacement.

The first goal in particular. Wowee. The kid can play.

                              Brilliant morning of football.
How good was Hakimi's winning penalty?!
Portugal looked like WC winners this morning, much more dangerous without Ronaldo.
