Anyway we were good value for the win. It wasn't a smash & grab - we played terrific football in the last 65 mins (shaky start notwithstanding). The Danes are technically very good but pretty toothless in attack. Add in the clean sheet against Peru in final qualifier and we've been exceptonally hard to break down against very good opposition in 3 of our last 4 competitive matches (apart from the French game).

Wish Poland could have held on for a draw against the Argies in the 2nd half as they would have been an easier opponent next game, but I will gladly take a round of 16 clash against anyone, anytime, anywhere. Bring it.

      Amazing to witness history.

That was incredible; defensively they were excellent, we did pierce through them a few times, and Leckie's finish was outstanding.

So happy for the team / country / Arnie, especially given the criticism levelled at them.

The calls of "we don't deserve to be there" and all the rubbish on social media pre-tournament look stupid now.

Is that up there as the best Socceroo goal of all time?
Our 1954 premiership players are our heroes, and it has to be said that Charlie was their hero.

What a win and moment in Australian sport history. Against the odds we made it through to the last 16 of the World Cup for the 2nd time in the national team history. Nice finish from Matthew Leckie on the counter attack.

Up there with Aloisi in the qualifier and Cahill in the game v Japan for me.

Actually the Cahill one v Netherlands? where he volleyed it was probably the best I've seen.

Considering the ranking of the opponent, and their form coming into the tournament (unbeaten in qualifying scoring 30 goals) it would have to be right in the running.

It was really well taken and composed, and of course in terms of importance it is probably the best. In terms of pure technical ability/degree of difficulty, Tim Cahill's volley against Netherlands in the 2014 World Cup is the best Socceroos goal I've seen, closely followed by his 2nd goal against Japan in the 2006 World Cup.

Showing my age here, but Charlie Yankos scored an absolute monster free kick from 30 yards out against Argentina in the 1988 Australian Bicentennial Gold Cup - that was also a very special goal and has to be in the frame for best ever Socceroos goal, and it was the last (and only) time we've beaten our next opponent (when they were reigning World Cup champions no less).

That goal is out of this world.

Denmark made the semis of the Euros only a year ago - they are a serious football team. In terms of quality of opponent and importance, it has to be up there with the best 1-2 wins we've had.

                        I think it's the best.

When you take into account the rankings, the expectations, the first game v France, it's just an astonishing result and achievement. It's skill as much as it is mental fortitude.

Cahill has a habit of those, I remember seeing the one live against the Victory at Marvel that was even better. It was like time stopped for a few seconds whilst it was traversing the atmosphere. You just knew it was going in immediately.

Tim was exciting and probably my favourite socceroo. That Yankos one was a ripper.

Leckie's goal today was really incredible when he looked up he had no support and had to do it all by himself. Caught the Danes napping in defence as they were all up the ground, and Leckie received a perfect pass and took them on.

Here are 6 of the best before today, including the ones you mention Sedat

Up all night to get Leckie!

Paying for it today but was worth it.

I thought Leckie was going to hold it up for a moment and was yelling at him to keep going, glad he heard me.

Thank goodness we didn't draw as the farcical VAR ending to the France v Tunisa game would have been ultra cruel.

Nothing to lose from here, have already surpassed everybody's expectations. Bring on Messi and the Argies.
