Interesting that Victoria has named an ex-Sri Lankan first class leg spinner in Ruwantha Kellepotha in it's Shield squad to play WA.

      Paul Amy in Codesport
Melbourne Renegades sign former Sri Lankan first class leg-spinner from Victorian Premier Cricket for BBL season
He played first-class cricket in Sri Lanka. He starred in Premier cricket. He has signed with the Renegades.
That was end of September, so looks like Vics are on board

Cricket is great at finding players like him and selecting them to somewhat obscurity.
Saw some highlights, looks like a very good bowler.

          Re: Sheffield Shield 2022/23

Just putting it out there that Renshaw is my favourite cricketer in the country.

I LOVE a batsman who improves all facets of their game (looking at you, Harris). Renshaw was a pudgy 19-year old with a nice clip off the pads, a lot of patience and not much else when he made a test ton against Pakistan.

He's gone back to the wilderness of domestic cricket and completely changed his game. He's added gears to his batting and can ramp up the tempo, he plays all around the wicket now, he's batted up and down the order and is a much better player of spin (he played some gorgeous lofted shots from Sangha yesterday).

What I really love is that he's not a cricketer who sees his game as batting and that's it (sorry to say it again, but Harris...). He looks a lot fitter, he's developed some handy off-spin, his fielding has come a long way and he plays year-round in County cricket. I think a lot of batters (particularly those that aren't natural athletes and made it through the junior ranks on batting alone) forget that cricket is more than just the runs you make and don't put the time into becoming as well-rounded as they could be.

The amazing part is that he's only 26 (blew my mind that he's two years younger than Marnus) and I still think there's a long Test career and a lot of runs in his future.

I found his innings yesterday incredibly impressive. He'd spent last season batting at 4 and 5 for Queensland but he was promoted back up the order, absorbed pressure and ended the day unbeaten on 86 from 276 balls. He's added a lot of shots but he's still a guy that can go back to patient and secure batting when the game calls for it.

Also, I think Queensland are the best development state in the country and Wade Seccombe is doing a terrific job. Renshaw, Khawaja, Neser, Steketee and now Peirson have all made big improvements in their games.

            Re: Sheffield Shield 2022/23

I liked Renshaw when he played for Australia but injury and form have really knocked him around for quite a few years now.

Luckily he was in his early/mid 20s so like you say still has plenty of time to have a long test career. Hopefully he makes his way back.

Harris might only have 1 trick but it's a pretty good trick, makes runs like almost nobody else at first class level. Pity it hasn't quite translated to tests.

Have they dropped the MCG pitch in at the Junction Oval? Bat dominating ball.

He puts some value on his wicket as well and from memory did he cop a couple of concussions which slowed his progress?

He's a hand part time spin bowlers as well.

Would love to see a split of Harris' Shield runs made at the MCG or Junction Oval versus away...

I get what you are saying but this is getting into Josh Bruce's goals don't count territory.

As a comparison Harris and Renshaw's averages in the last county cricket season were similar (Harris 42 v Renshaw 47) and I don't think they played any games in Melbourne.

Handscomb made 281 no and Harper 132 no as the Vics declared with a lead of 150.
WA currently 3 wickets down for 41.

Cricket nerd, so I do find these numbers interesting so went back and had a look at Harris' Shield stats since his 2018/19 breakout season with Victoria. It's a very strong record, and the split isn't as pronounced as I thought - averaging 67.9 at home and 50.1 away.

His stats are really interesting when you look at them up close. If Harris gets a hundred, he goes big. He's made 8 hundreds across that period, two of those doubles, and three of those un-dismissed. Once he crosses the century, he averages an incredible 254.

Renshaw is currently 169no and Neser 102no as QLD build a big lead on NSW.

Not for the first time. He's still young and has time on his side but I'm starting to worry we may never see him reach his potential with his concussions and mental health challenges.

One positive is Ash Chandrasinghe gets his chance in the squad for the first time.

Just watching a bit of the Vic's playing Tassie

Ashley Chandrasinghe puts some value on his wicket. 16 runs off 75 deliveries and 12 of those runs have come have hit the fence.
                                Certainly picks his attacking efforts.
