His batting has improved markedly in the last 12 months - it was definitely under par before that.

His height would have made him an awkward proposition bowling early in the innings on those uneven bouncing decks. He hits the wicket hard and can bowl effort balls, something a fast bowler needs in their kitbag in India.

Do you see him as a number 6, 7 or 8 in the batting order for Australia?
To me he is more of an 8 and if we had a great keeper who could hold down #6 then he might be able to bat at 7.

Could Green and Sutherland ever play in the same test side? They are the same age and quite similar players. Does 3 bowlers and 2 all rounders work?

He's playing like a no 6 with the bat this season. Green is better but he wasn't available for the first 2 tests. Morris has become a professional drinks waiter on this tour and Hazlewood/Starc were both out of action for the first 2 tests as well. IMO there was a spot for Sutherland in the initial touring party as a horses for courses selection, who was fully fit and able to contribute immediately with bat and ball.

The first 2 tests should have had Head opening with Khawaja (instead of Warner), Marnus at 3, Smith at 4, Handscomb at 5 (instead of Renshaw), Sutherland at 6, Carey at 7, Agar at 8 (left arm orthodox variation, and rightly or wrongly he was first choice left arm spinner selected for the tour), Cummins at 9, Lyon at 10 and Murphy at 11 - much better balanced attack and would have added spine to the tail as well.

Highly unlikely, and Green is the deserved incumbent when fully fit.

I guess it Green was at 6, Sutherland at 8 and Cummins at 9 with 2 spinners it might work on subcontinent tracks.

A lot of shield games will start this week.
Vics will be missing Maxwell who's had a flair up with his injury.
WA will have Mitch Marsh back but as a batsman only.

Big Spencer Johnson is starting to make some waves with the red ball. Took 7fa yesterday on the back of 6 in his Shield debut.

There's something extra frightening about left armers that can crank to 150km. If he stays fit, I'd like to see him start being talked about for Aus A squads.

Impressive result and he must be a genuine prospect.
On another shield game I noticed Agar didn't play for WA and yet he apparently flew home so he could player the longer format.

He's grabbed another couple of wickets today. 9 for the game so far.

And he has whipped in with 2 wickets in an over.

A huge 138 (110) from Josh Inglis has led WA to 387 from 50 overs in the Marsh Cup final and put them in the driver's seat. Inglis is way too good for domestic cricket.

WA have a crazy good team at the moment. I think only 2 of the 11 haven't played for Australia and it would have only been 1 if Jhye Richardson wasn't injured once again.
