    Re: 2023 Tour of India

Well that was a bit of a bore, but it was good that we didn't crumble under pressure early.

That wicket should also be rated as poor. But it won't be, because the BCCI will boycott the universe if it is - and we can't have that.
    TF is this?.........Obviously you're not a golfer.

I agree. How cricket can be served up on 4 substandard picthes is a disgrace. At least the last pitch was a decent batting wicket.

Surprised you give the player of he series nod to Ashwin/Jadeja. On 3 pitches my mother could have made the ball turn.

I think the take away for Australia should be the depth of our spin stocks. Murphy and Kuhn both look ready to go and should be in and around the setup for a long time.

Also thought that innings will be a huge boost of confidence for Green. Think it'll do his confidence a world of good ahead of the Ashes.

Obviously the batting was poor apart from a few performers, but I thought the real surprise was how bad our pace bowling was. It's the worst Cummins has bowled for Australia - though it wouldn't surprise if family circumstances had a lot to do with that - and Starc was all over the place. I think there will be some reflection on the quicks we took over.

I think Head was the 2nd highest run scorer despite being dropped for the 1st test. Marnus and Smith were disappointing. Carey was okay behind the stumps but erratic in front of them. Despite the positives this was a shocking series for us. Poorly planned and managed and too many players not willing to adapt their game.

I'm a little perplexed by Australia's performance on this tour - some elements were terrific and some were really poor. To be honest, India are a middling team and were actually ripe for the picking in this series, but we shot ourselves in the foot with diabolical squad and team selection early in the tour. Australia should be disappointed with not sharing the spoils at the very least, and with a little more prudent team and squad selections could easily have won this series.

India have holes everywhere - opening batter alongside Rohit, poor middle order, Kohli and Pujara in an extended run of poor form (credit to both for turning it around later in the series), lack of depth in pace bowling (exposed by Bumrah being out injured - Shami got vitually no help from Umesh or Siraj), and we weren't able to take advantage of them. India's tail was amazing (especially Axar) and got them out of deep holes in the first couple of tests.

If Bumrah is not available (and it looks highly unlikely), Austraia should back themselves to win the WTC final in English conditions against India. But a lot will depend on team selection and making sure the mix is exactly right, which it wasn't in this series when it really counted.

Agree with that, and India's form in the shorter formats and away from home has been patchy for a while.

I think India are in a really interesting place and we'll learn a lot about them over the next 24 months.

This is the first generation of India players that really cut their teeth as youngsters in the IPL. Rohit, Kohli, Pujara and Rahane - the cornerstone of this Indian batting generation - all had a few years of first class cricket under their belts before the IPL began in 2008. That's not the case for Gill and Iyer (and to a lesser extent KL Rahul) who were integrated into the IPL as youngsters. I don't think you can understate how dominant the IPL is in India, and that focus must've had an impact on guys who were taking their initial steps into first class cricket.

It'll be interesting to see whether that will have any impact on them as Test players. It's almost as if the BBL absolutely dominated the Australian domestic scene and that's where Pucovski and Green had initially made their names, rather than in the Shield.
