Swepson was in the squad but went home after the first Test due to the birth of his child and is now returning.
Agar selected to tour and then overlooked for Kuhnemann who was not in the original squad and was a late call up to replace Swepson.
Renshaw has made just 9 runs since returning to the test team in his 3 tests and 4 innings. He was dropped for the last test but replaced a concussed Warner.
The inform Travis Head was dropped for the first test but earned his spot back for the 2nd test.

The upside is clearly Todd Murphy but I'm struggling to see a lot more at the moment.
It should never have been like this. We are the number one ranked Test team and should have looked at the squad with the aim to win in India.

Warner is not suited to playing in India, so should not have been in the squad.

Agar didn't deserve his place based on form and of course we had to try and cover Green and Starc for at least 1 or 2 tests.

Hazelwood, as I said earlier in this thread with an Achilles was never really a chance to play, so why is he there?

I think Hazlewood has played just 3 tests in our last 16 tests. It just highlights he isn't right physically and was at best a highly risky selection. Selectors and the sports science team need to be held to account on why we were optimistic he could play a role in this tour. We don't need to go back to Langer but I don't think McDonald is the answer.

On a par. That whole homework issue was poorly managed by both the players and the coaches.
From a selection perspective I don't think I've witnessed as many mistakes and we still have two tests to go.

The selectors are extremely clever though. And that's what makes international test cricket great. Really clever selections.

            Re: 2023 Tour of India

Agar on the way home from India to *checks notes* be available for the upcoming Marsh Cup matches for WA.

Utterly bizarre turn of events that highlights the selection confusion for this tour - firstly he was selected for the Sydney test off the back of no red ball form for many years, predictably went wicketless but was still selected for the Indian tour. Then, despite Indian pitches being a haven for left arm orthodox bowlers, he was overlooked for the 1st test (no complaints about Murphy being seleced but Agar should have been the 3rd spinner instead of Boland as 2nd seamer). Then he is overlooked again for the 2nd test at the expense of another left arm orthodox who was flown in at the last minute a couple of days before the test started. Now he is sent home fully fit to play domestic one-dayers.

He must have consistently been bowling utter rubbish in the nets in India, that's the only possible explanation.

Did anyone see the way Agar conducted himself upon his return to Australia? A truely classy response

                  That has been the word.

No doubt it was a mistake picking him in the squad, but I do think the selectors did the right thing by not picking him if he was truly out of form. Playing him would have only further compounded their error.

Taking some risks there. Marsh gets injured and Maxwell didnt perform in the shield.
                      Has Jhye Richardson been playing?

                        All 3 returning from injury.

I don't think Maxwell's form in the first shield game he has played in years after 3 months out with a broken leg is at all relevant to his ODI selection.

Dropped a catch and injured himself in the process, laboured a bit when running in the field and his time at the crease was poor.
I tend to agree with what you are saying in regards to the relevance of a Shield performance but I do think he could be a high risk given how little cricket he has played.

The ball that hit his wrist bounced in front of him, wasn't a drop. Saw highlights of him taking slip catches in the 4th innings so he was fine. Not really surprising he isn't 100% after a broken leg. The first ODI is almost a month away so he has time find some form and fitness.

He had a suspected broken wrist, but later found it was ok.

I agree, he will find form in the next month - too good to leave out of a ODI.

Cummins to miss the third test, his mother ill and in palliative care. Unknown if he will return for the fourth test.

                                Smith to captain.

I assume Starc will replace him and Green to replace Renshaw/Warner.
