Rose Davies broke the Australian Record in the 5,000m today. She won the national title for the event about a month ago and then ran an Olympic Qaulfying time a few weeks ago in Shanghai. So she will be going to Paris.

I have no idea. Running that fast is beyond my comprehension.

But if you want to know more, she has a podcast called Spiked Up. I would say, plenty of God given natural talent and then a whole lot of hard work and dedication. Middle distance and long distance runners are probably running 120km to 200km weeks. You need to be super consistent building and then maintaing running volume for years and then a great season and specific block of training to run times like that.

Hard to argue with the article.

            3 spots available
Lets choose 1, 2 and 5 to represent us instead of 3 (who happens to have the most qualifiers)

Integrity in selection should be 3 best qualifiers not just because we think someone else will be better on a day in the future.

(Bevo match committee must have taken over the marathon selection panel)
Life is to be Enjoyed not Endured

              Re: 2024 Paris Olympics

I find the inconsitency from the commitee staggering.

You either say, let's pick the fastest three times or you make a decision using discretion.

So I can see how they possibly make a case to include Stenson who won Gold in the Commonwealth Games (where they chose not to select Weightman, which was a poor decision) and ran 2:24 seven months after having a child. Understand they can say, let's ignore the time. She should be in on creditentials. OK. You have set a precedence.

How do they then select Gregson who has only ever ran two marathons, only one qualyfying time, zero Championship Marathon pedigree ahead of Weightman. Weightman has proven she can perform in heat, on hilly courses and on fast flat courses. The only thing Gregson has ahead of Weightman is a 7 second better time and a head to head win over Weightman at Valencia where Weightman had COVID (but still ran 2:24).

Weightman has three qualifying times under the standard. No other athlete has more than one. She has the third best quayfing time and she has a 7-1 head to head record against Stenson in races and 3-1 in the Marathon. It makes zero sense.

I can also understand why Diver was chosen. She is the Australian Marathon record holder and ran that time in the window, albeit almost two years ago now. She is also 47 now and was 45 when she ran that time. She has also not raced much lately due to injuries.

The selection criteria is opaque and I'm hoping that there are some rules put in place to avoid this happening again. Or do what the USA does. Have a trial. Top three go to the Olympics.

Swimming trials kicked off last night and there's already a few new faces in the mix for our Dolphins team, alongside familiar faces including our most successful Olympian in McKeon.

It makes for great telly, the trials. 5 more evenings of it on Ch9

They’ve nailed the programming to have the Paralympians on the schedule and interspersed through the program. Scooter is a real character, he was a highlight of the last trials.

Athletics is my favourite and I believe the purest of all the Olympic sports.

Swimming because we are so good at it. The Boomers getting a bronze medal was one of my favourite moments of last Olympics, so will be cheering both teams on again this year. I'm also looking foward to the surfing at Teahupoo, hopefully they get a big swell.

I also have a weird fasciantion with Weightlifting every four years and enjoy watching that too.

Athletics is #1 for me. Swimming is #999 for me.

Will enjoy the weightlifting and basketball. And the rugby 7's.

Athletics, Indoor Cycling, Rowing and the Weightlifting.

I assume Channel 9 will have multiple channels going for each of the days, I really do not want to spend money on Stan and then pay extra for the Olympic coverage especially considering the time zone difference.

I need someone to explain this one to me...that event where they just sit on their bikes- stationery and try to get the other person to go in front...I don't get it and it spoils the whole thing for me. Race or don't race. Just get on with it!
