    Euro 2024

    IMG_0138.jpg

Euro 2024 starts this week 14/6 (15/6 AEDT) with Germany taking on Scotland to kick of proceedings. Always love tournament football. A month of sleepless nights (if you have Optus). Favourites are England (guaranteed not to win now) followed by France, Germany (only 3rd cause they are on home soil) and Portugal.

24 team tournament with top 2 from each group and 4 x 3rd place teams advancing to round of 16.

Couple of difficult Groups particularly groups B and D.

    What are your tips:

    Winner
    Runner up
    Surprise packet
    Biggest flop
    Leading goal scorer

      Re: Euro 2024

Tournament football always takes me back to my youth. Getting waked up and some ungodly time, darkness, winter and importanlty espresso but the excitement of the Auzzurri playing in a big tournament was always enough to warm the soul. More than anything it was something that brought everyone together and nothing else mattered while that football match was on.

I'm not too certain the Azzurri are in any shape to do some damage in this tournament with only 3-4 players from the last Euro winning team in the squad and missing vital players from the last campaign like Bonucci, Chiellini, Verratti, Insigne, Immobile, Beradi and Spinazzola. This is a team in tansition, between generations but you never know what will happen in Championship Football.

The group of death with Spain, Croatia, Italia and Alabania looks incredibly difficult to get out of.

      Can't wait. Bring it on.

      Winner France
      Runner Up England
      Surprise packet Hungary
      Biggest flop Germany
      Leading goal scorer Kane

Think I'll just watch a replay of the 2004 Euros

2004 aside, Greece's perennial under-performing in major championships reminds me of an old joke:

Q: Why are the Greeks no good at football?
A: Because every time they get a corner, they open up a fish and chip shop
"Look at me mate. Look at me. I'm flyin'"

King Otto was Ross the Boss before Ross the Boos even started coaching. Parking the bus never looked so beautiful.

Always feel positive about the Dutch chances but quite reserved this time round, however given some great form in the two recent friendlies I can’t help but get my excitement levels up. No doubt they will disappoint but hey might as well be positive.

Portugal are stacked. 39 year old Ronaldo still has the fire. Be interesting to see him against the very best again.

Great start to the tournament by Germany 5-1. Hopefully a sign of things to come for the tournament. Exciting football by Germany. They have improved considerably since Nagelsmann has taken over. A new lease of life for some of the older players plus some incredibly talented youngsters- Musiala is a star and Wirtz is excellent- both only 21. Wow. They have a good defensive structure with some serious attacking prowess.

Scotland very fortunate that thrashing wasn't even more severe. I don't think they touched the ball in the German half in the first half. Not a meaningful one anyway. Kroos is still the master and the finishing was methodical as well as it was technically sublime. Like in 2014 the Germans can score from almost any situation from a wide variety of players. They are serious.
