ATM 20/20 is a far better product than 50 overs cricket. 50 overs got very clinical and boring. I still dont know if it's novelty value but I really like T20 cricket. The IPL in June and July has become compolsury viewing for me.
They say Burt Lancaster has one, but I don't believe them.

A friend and I were talking about this the other day.

I feel that we can retain the 50 over concept, except slightly modify it, making it a 2-innings per side format. Bat for 25 overs, then bowl for 25, then repeat. This way the day/night conditions are less favourable to the side that wins the toss, and it also would help keep players fresh so as to maintain a higher standard over each 25 over block.

        Anyway...go Redbacks!!
Have you heard Butters wants to come to the Dogs?

Like yourself & Twodogs, i don't think i would miss the 50 over game, for the cricket purists, Test Cricket is what it's all about, and i was glued to the set as much as possible during the summer, and i must say leading up to the Windies & Paki's Tests, i had a few doubts whether we would see alot of decent cricket [The Windies had their team in shambles with pay disputes & the Paki's are the Paki's, always hot & cold], fortunately most games were amazing, especially that Sydney Test, Gayle hitting great form, the argy bargy with Benn & most of the Aussies, and the overall scoreline doesn't reflect how close some of the Tests were.

So Test cricket is alive & kicking, the 50 over game is meant to be that hit & miss entertainment form, and has been to a certain extent, the 20/20 format is 100% entertainment, and the crowds it pulls is testament to that, i mean, who would have thought crowds between 20,000 & 30,000 would show up to any form of domestic cricket here in Australia? Just unbelievable, naturally a few imports would help that as well.

But with the 50 over game, there are times it can become a bit stale throughout an innings, most teams start off fast, end off fast, but there is a gap of 20 overs or so of just chipping the ball around, and that's where it can lose some entertaining value for especially the punters that might not perhaps be 100% cricket lovers, the short short form of the game has everyone's attention from start to end.

I agree, the 50 over version is now boring and needs a format change. The 20/20 is quick and its all over and brings a bit of entertainment value as well.

At the end of the day, does it really matter?

There is NEVER going to be a complete fair system, due to teams qualifying ahead of others therefor having games played in their home state no matter on how many games other teams have played in theirs, if the shoe was on the other foot, and the Vics played one more home game than away, but also then qualified to play the finals at the G, would we be complaining then?

There are other factors in play as well, even down to availability of imported players, is it even that one team gets full use of their imports and others only get one, maybe two games out of either? it's just the nature of the beast, I'm sure the domestic players that would never ever get a chance to play in front of crowds they have been experiencing couldn't give one hyota....

It was touched on in another post, but how long do you want the series to last for to ensure all teams play equal amount of home & away games and play each side twice, there is already far too much cricket being played around the world, and if the comp was extended, how much use would they get from their imported players.

The system that is in place now seems to be working fine, the crowds are awesome, why mess with it?

I think 20/20 is great for the future of the game as it doesnt go long and you can take the younger kids who wouldnt sit through a 50 over game.
Thus kids start to follow the game and it could become a tradition for younger families to go to.

Mum, dad the kids go for 3 hrs of exciting entertainment, not all day and the kids getting bored, hungry, toilet stops etc.

A great move whoever started this idea, it might be hit and giggle but it brings fun back into cricket.

I'm rapt that domestic cricket is getting such good support and great crowds. Imagine how many would've turned up Friday night if Adelaide Oval was at full capacity, or if it was played at the MCG. GO BUSHRANGERS!!!!

How is it never going to be fair. 10 games of home and away is a lot fairer already.

Its great system, SA get a home final cos of 3 wins at home and against a bottom side away.
                          Also 2 x 40K crowds instead of 5 x 40K is much better.

I knew someone would pick up on it pretty quickly though!!

Why not play all the Vics games at MCG then?
